Random Synaptic Firings: Putting it together
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2013/09/putting-it-together.html
Wednesday, September 11, 2013. I seem to have fallen out of the blogosphere completely. I feel like I'm not alone. I have much to write about, and some day I'll have time for it all. In the meantime, over the weekend, Stephanie was in town, and we went to a concert given by Audra McDonald, who- I have established- I lov. That same weekend, I also attended the BEST FOOTBALL GAME EVER. But that's a story for another post. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). FEEDJIT Live Traffic Feed. Ice cream cone cupcakes.

Random Synaptic Firings: Happy April Fool's Day
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2013/04/happy-april-fools-day.html
Monday, April 1, 2013. Happy April Fool's Day. Two big April Fool's moments of my day:. 1 A student e-mailed me to tell me that his client attempted suicide over the weekend. I thought it might be a joke (a really bad one, but this is the same male student who grew a mustache, so it seemed plausible), but, sadly, it wasn't. 2 My friend Megan texted me and said, "It looks like you're going to be working for BYU after all :)" It turns out, she saw a link to this. Existential crisis averted, everyone. Pumpk...

Random Synaptic Firings: Orange Vanilla Bean Cupcakes
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2009/12/orange-vanilla-bean-cupcakes.html
Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Orange Vanilla Bean Cupcakes. Nevertheless, I was not going to miss an opportunity to cook in Melanee's kitchen and use all of her utensils and appliances. This is Mel's microplane zester. I want one really badly. She has more counter space in this picture than I have in my entire kitchen. I also covet her big jars of flour and sugar. And her flat-top stove. And her spice rack. And all of her bowls. She also has a Bosch, which I was too scared to use. Ice cream cone cupcakes.

Random Synaptic Firings: One-bowl Chocolate Cupcakes
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2009/12/one-bowl-chocolate-cupcakes.html
Thursday, December 10, 2009. Of all of the recipes I have made, this is one I envision using a lot after this experiment is over. It's very similar to a cake mix, in that you combine everything except for the eggs, oil, and water first. Like the name suggests, you make it all in one bowl. I even used my hand mixer for a change of pace. Here is a link to the recipe. Which is super easy. Make it, and you will be amazed at how easy homemade cupcakes can be. I used a Wilton cake tip #352 to pipe three rings ...

Random Synaptic Firings: Seize the Day, the first Broadway Rant
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2012/06/seize-day-first-broadway-rant.html
Monday, June 11, 2012. Seize the Day, the first Broadway Rant. A few weeks ago, Stephanie suggested we go to New York City for Memorial Day. It took me about three seconds to decide that sounded like a fabulous idea, especially when she mentioned Broadway musicals, shopping, and awesome food. We went into Dash, which is a store that exclusively sells Kardashian merchandise. I tried to take a picture, but a security guard stopped me. 2 Pick a show with the original cast (see above). 5 Pick a show I know I...

Random Synaptic Firings: Ginger-Spice Cupcakes
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2009/12/ginger-spice-cupcakes.html
Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Remember Geri Halliwell, Ginger Spice from Spice Girls? I googled her to see what she was up to these days. Apparently she has recently written a series of children's books. It has been so long since I made these that I have forgotten a lot of what was going on at that time. I made these right before I left for Utah, with the idea that I would freeze them, pack them in my suitcase, and take them the to the family party the night that I arrived in Salt Lake. Tiny cherry and a...

Random Synaptic Firings: While you're waiting
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2013/03/while-youre-waiting.html
Sunday, March 3, 2013. It's been a weird couple of months for me. I am contracted at BYU until mid-June, but I will be at Utah State in the fall, which means that, for the next few months, I sort of have a foot in both places. I am in the process of buying a house that is currently being built. You can see this awesome picture above of the front windows, my fireplace (which seems like a must-have in Logan) and the cutout for my pantry. I plan to put a TV on the wall above the fireplace. Coconut-pecan cup...

Random Synaptic Firings: Peanut Butter Cupcakes & Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cupcakes
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2010/01/peanut-butter-cupcakes-oatmeal.html
Wednesday, January 20, 2010. Peanut Butter Cupcakes and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cupcakes. Between the maple cupcakes and these, I decided to take an hour and clean my kitchen. For the first time in a long time, all of my dishes were clean, my counter was clean, my sink was clean, and my mixer was clean. I took pictures to document the occasion. This was in preparation to make two more recipes, the first of which was peanut butter cupcakes. And here's the other link. The nice thing about my job is that, if...

Random Synaptic Firings: It's Not You; It's Me
http://meganoka.blogspot.com/2012/12/its-not-you-its-me.html
Sunday, December 30, 2012. It's Not You; It's Me. Stay with me. This is part end-of-the-year musing and part important announcement. This has been quite a year for me. On the frivolous side, I took trips to Texas, Washington, D.C., New York, Georgia, China, Taiwan, North Carolina, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Logan, UT (more on that in a minute). I attended the following plays, ranging from Broadway to very local: Memphis. Porgy and Bess,. At the end of the show), In the Heights. Arsenic and Old Lace.
