Royal Canal Amenity Group (RCAG). Promoting Heritage Recreation Education. How to use “Royal Canal Smart Tags”. Royal Canal Way Update. August 30, 2016. Work has now commenced (23rd Aug. 2016) on the Royal Canal Way between Blackshade Bridge and Hill of Down, with the result that the Towpath is now closed in this area until early 2017. However, we are still waiting, with bated breath for work to commence on the section west of Maynooth, which I believe is the responsibility of Kildare County Council.
