These Three Remain

A promise to keep.a discipline to embrace.a life to share. Tuesday, October 2, 2012. More than a year has passed since I posted to any of my blogs and 95% of my personal writing this past year took the form of grocery and to-do lists, the other 5% was comprised of items too intimate for public consumption and an ongoing list of essay ideas. Somehow, as much as I think I want to write, I keep pushing other things ahead of writing. EMMANUEL: GOD WITH US DURING SEASONS OF LAMENT AND SILENCE. God is with us!

These Three Remain: November 2010

http://sandystrugglestospeak.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

A promise to keep.a discipline to embrace.a life to share. Tuesday, November 9, 2010. I am a very slow decision maker. I rue the hours that have mounted up over the years standing in a store aisle trying to decide between gifts for a loved one, or sitting THINKING for way too long about which task on my list has the highest priority NOW! I can see a couple benefits of this personality characteristic, but mostly, in my culture, its a liability I struggle with continually. Links to this post.

These Three Remain: Triathlon Tale

http://sandystrugglestospeak.blogspot.com/2011/06/triathlon-tale.html

A promise to keep.a discipline to embrace.a life to share. Monday, June 20, 2011. Isaac participated in his second triathlon for kids this past weekend. You'll find photos and story here. The waves of racers start with the oldest kids (13-15 year olds) and finishes with the 5-6 year old group. Who can watch small riders pedaling out onto the bike course with training wheels and not. What good manners.what self-confidence.what total mis-judgement of one's relative speed! June 21, 2011 at 7:04 AM. Excellen...

A promise to keep.a discipline to embrace.a life to share. Saturday, September 25, 2010. Experiencing God's Goodness Through People. I experienced the same kind of goodness in getting set up for Sam and Amber's wedding rehearsal dinner. Family and friends helped us prepare food, set up tables, displays and games and made short work of the clean-up at the end of the evening. Links to this post. Monday, September 20, 2010. 103 One of Kyle's and Sam's high school teachers stopped by the lot where the new ho...

A promise to keep.a discipline to embrace.a life to share. Saturday, August 6, 2011. Last weekend when we were working on the house, I heard Michelle's startled "OH, NO.boys, come back here! And just in case you missed the triumphant display of boyhood. And I am pretty certain, from all the excitement, adrenalin-loving moments, this young'un has already displayed (see 5th photo down on this link. I'm certain he will have his own as well as shared exploits. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The View From Here: November 2010

http://sandycullum.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

The View From Here. Monday, November 22, 2010. What I Really Want For Christmas. Very soon I will need to answer the "what do you want for Christmas? What I would REALLY. Like for Christmas, if someone could give it to me, would be the gift of being a good listener. I remember seeing a picture definition of the character trait of "attentive" when our boys were young: a line drawing of two children in a small tent, with alert eyes and cocked ears, listening, listening to a coyote howling at the moon. ...

The View From Here: Advent Wait

http://sandycullum.blogspot.com/2010/12/advent-wait.html

The View From Here. Sunday, December 19, 2010. One of the first ASL (American Sign Language) signs I learned after Michelle and Kyle brought Prema from Kolkata, India into their home was "wait". Both hands extended, palm up, with all the fingers waving, like an upside down movement on a computer or piano keyboard. Prema had NO symbolic language and I had very few ASL signs at my command, so I used it a lot in all my interactions with her those first few months. I watch my grand-daughter move in and out o...

The View From Here. Saturday, August 28, 2010. Unpacked, Falling Asleep, and Grateful. David, Mom and I took a red eye flight from Anchorage to Houston to Tampa last night after spending 10 days exploring Alaska, enjoying the scenery and wildlife and COOLNESS and many great meals. As ususal, I took bunches of photos - until I inadvertently smashed our camera against a table and bent the lens. This sunset view is from our lodge, north of Talkeetna. Monday, August 9, 2010. The View From Here. Monday, July 26, 2010. A Lifetime of Giving Thanks. Thanksgiving: It does a body good. I realized when Amber began posting her deliberate thanksgiving on her blog a few weeks ago. That it was probably time for me to move back into the discipline of frequent, deliberate thanksgiving instead of waiting for it to overtake me with joy. So I am beginning today to keep my word to join the Multitude Monday community. I am so grateful:. I am so grateful:. 10 for the church family that welcome...

The View From Here: Gardening Lessons

http://sandycullum.blogspot.com/2011/08/gardening-lessons.html

The View From Here. Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Childhood memories of corn stalks towering above me in my parents' backyard garden in New York, and rows of glass jars of home canned fruits and vegetables stirred a little bit of hope in me about tending a small garden in our suburban Florida yard (tropical south gardening zone. After a month or two of skimming through a square foot gardening book and listening to pre-school grandchildren urging me forward - "When are you going to get chickens , Grandma?

cullum family: Haircut

http://thecullumfamily.blogspot.com/2012/12/haircut.html

Friday, December 28, 2012. Yes, I knew they were doing this. Yes ,I allowed it to happen. They needed a haircut anyway and usually we just take the shears to them. It served its purpose.the house was quiet for a good hour, they were enjoying their time and they were making some fun memories. The scary part is that they actually think their new style looks good. Finished Product.certainly in need of a buzz cut in the next few hours. Maybe Gene will give them some pointers when he comes to visit.

The View From Here. Tuesday, May 11, 2010. Note to Self 2: Cups in the Car. One of the things I love about my newest daughter-in-law is how much she enjoys laughter. Since Amber reminded me afresh about the immense value of laughter in her recent blog post, I thought I'd share a quick EEUUGH! I put the car in park, turned and pulled the keys, and grabbed the to-go cup in the holder for a swig. Suck on the straw, feel lemon seed-sized object in mouth followed immediately by YOWWW.that's a STING!

The View From Here: The Happy Discipline

http://sandycullum.blogspot.com/2011/04/happy-discipline.html

The View From Here. Monday, April 4, 2011. Our desktop computer (with all my photos) has been paralyzed since the heavy storm that moved through our area last Thursday, but hopefully, soon, I'll have it back, with all bits fully restored and accessible. My body is reluctant to fully cooperate with my ambitious to-do list today, but at least I can post thank you's from the sofa with a borrowed laptop. The View From Here: Nails of Gratitude

http://sandycullum.blogspot.com/2011/03/nails-of-gratitude.html

The View From Here. Monday, March 21, 2011. I raced through my first reading of Ann Voskamp's One Thousand Gifts. Gulping it down, feeling the sharp pierce of pain that shattered hearts and dulled lives into numb existence, and nodding in agreement, through mouthfuls of words, at the discovery and practice of the life-giving, life-sustaining discipline of gratitude expressed with such aching beauty. A few thank you's from my journal this past month:. 203 quiet comraderie with sister and mother. 208 passi...

http://sandycullum.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

The View From Here. Friday, December 31, 2010. Our son and his wife left a "Happy Anniversary voice message the other day when they couldn't reach me in person. I laughed when I heard the smile in his voice and a laugh from his wife at his side: "We're glad you're still married.". We have been married long enough now for each to have gone through some pretty devastating dashing of hopes, desires and expectations in our relationship. We have each had, at different times, to very deliberately choose. It ha...

Sandy Struss :: Champion of the Underdog!

Stories have the power to influence and change lives. And the greatest story you will ever tell is the one you tell with your own life. I see underdogs as people with a burning desire to make a mark â who remain committed and undeterred in spite of the odds stacked against them, and who exhibit an indomitable spirit that inspires others. Underdogs have the boldness and tenacity to pursue a goal wholeheartedly, and challenge us all to see our potential and dare to pursue our personal best.
