Moving Out, Swearing in, Settling in, and Just Generally Swearing. Well, once again I failed horribly at keeping up with this blog, but so it goes. So, let me start off with what I left off with last post. Swearing in. I moved out of my host family’s house on January 13. It’s not like I’m gonna leave behind the shoes I bought or all the free clothes I’d gotten. Swearing in happened on January 15. Okay, mini-rant over. Moving on! Another Week, Another “How Do I Explain This To My Audience” Post | sarainjordan

https://sarainjordan.wordpress.com/2012/12/23/another-week-another-how-do-i-explain-this-to-my-audience-post

Another Week, Another How Do I Explain This To My Audience Post. This week went by faster than I’d imagined it could have. Granted it didn’t seem like it was moving so fast at the time, but now I can’t believe it’s my Write the Blog Post Day. It’s cold and blustery, and I’m missing the Michigan snow more than I’d thought I would. Snow is cold and wet, but usually somewhat pretty. Plus, it’s Christmas time, which makes me all wistful. Rain, mud, and muck are just messy and gross. If male) or mudeera.

Oh, How Time Flies When You’re Never Entirely Sure What’s Going On. And patience. Because I don’t know what’s going on. Because I’m living in someone else’s house and someone else’s country. Because I’m relying on the goodwill of a lot of people to get through my day, everyday, and their not getting irked by the crazy/incomprehensible/insulting thing the American is doing. Patience is the very least I can give. Okay, so housekeeping taken care of, let me tell you about my adventure! Adding to that modera...

Happy Thanksgiving! | sarainjordan

https://sarainjordan.wordpress.com/2012/11/25/happy-thanksgiving

Hello, folks, we meet once again. Things are proceeding apace and mostly quietly here. At least as quiet as it ever gets in a household with three boys below the age of 11. Actually, I should say 12, since today/yesterday was my eldest host brother’s birthday. Happy birthday, Laith! Thanksgiving came and went here quietly, which was to be expected since why would Jordanians celebrate an American holiday? One time, in Peace Corps, we were trapped in DC for 24-hours because of a hurricane. The funny side o...

https://sarainjordan.wordpress.com/2012/12/16/its-permanent-sites-knowing-practicum-ending-olive-picking-and-scorpion-killing-time

It’s Permanent Sites Knowing, Practicum Ending, Olive Picking, and Scorpion Killing Time! I know where I’m going to live for the next two years! I found out last week, actually, the day after I posted. I wanted to give you the news then, but the internet was down. (It was actually a funny sight. The ceremony is over and two dozen young adults grab their laptops in excitement and can do nothing.) So you get the news now. There was cake and Pepsi (pronounced Bibsee here), and plenty of time to talk. Olives...

WanderingTheWorld.com: I'm leaving soon for Peace Corps Thailand

Excited to serve in Peace Corps Thailand in 2014-2016. December 28, 2013. I'm leaving soon for Peace Corps Thailand. Sa-wat-dee, khrap" which means "Hello" in the language of Thailand, my home hopefully for the next 27 months where I will be a Peace Corps volunteer. I thought I would start off my blogging journey with this short post about where I am going, what I'll be doing, and who I will be working with. During PST, each of us will live with a host family, begin intensive Thai language instruction, a...

Excited to serve in Peace Corps Thailand in 2014-2016. October 12, 2007. Well, at Plum Village, I've been a little isolated from world events. On the Underground in London I saw a newspaper talking about Al Gore's Nobel Peace Prize. What great news both for us and the planet. Maybe this will help people see the inter-connection between how we treat the planet and how we treat each other. And see his movie. Throw us off the train? Paddy had been here many years ago and had wanted to go see the Natural His...

Excited to serve in Peace Corps Thailand in 2014-2016. June 25, 2007. Which is based in Portland, Oregon in the USA. Nalanda Monastery's new building project video. Today was market day, so one of the women volunteers, Tess, took me to town in Lavaur. It was a huge market selling all sorts of wonderful things. I especially liked all the smells coming out of the food stalls. Tess is one of the people I will be working with while I am here. 4th Year Teaching in Mongolia. 3rd Year Teaching in Mongolia.

Excited to serve in Peace Corps Thailand in 2014-2016. August 10, 2002. Welcome to Salas de los Infantes. I'm not sure how this will read because I've been up for about 34 hours if don't count the catnap I had on the plane. Ricardo was excited when the second movie started: K9 with Jim Balushi. After it finished, we both tried to get some sleep. Kind of different because of the cramped quarters. Not an hour went by when they turned up the lights to serve breakfast. Some community gathering was going on a...

Excited to serve in Peace Corps Thailand in 2014-2016. September 2, 2005. Heading to the Casbah. Our Moroccan guide, Abdula, gave us a lot of info about his country and our trip. He said everyone told him he looks like Michael Douglas. So he'd answer to either Abdula or Michael. Driving through Morocco reminded me more of Kenya but the buildings are still very Spanish-looking. Lots of people walking and little vegetation. But the coast road was busy. 4th Year Teaching in Mongolia. Study Spanish in Spain.

Excited to serve in Peace Corps Thailand in 2014-2016. December 8, 2011. The school outside my window. Today's temperature: -31F. Ah, Mongolia. My second home. [smile]. Well, I've been here a week and settling in. Almost like I never left. Everyone is still here, so I don't have to get used to anyone new. It's like coming back into the family. From Dark to Light in Iceland!

From Dark to Light in Iceland! Monday, May 25, 2009. My packing is coming along. So far, I have a densely rolled layer of clothes on the bottom of my duffle bag and have begun to work on fitting in my shoes in the most efficient way possible. My room looks messy, much to my despair, but my wall decorations still are cheerfully adorning the wall. Wow So much has happened in the last couple of weeks. We have been going NON stop! I was in a short sleeved t-shirt for a couple of minutes one day! But before w...

A Year in Himeji, Japan

A Year in Himeji, Japan. Friday, August 15, 2008. I thought my last post would be the last, but I have to tell you about Obon. Obon. Is a three day long holiday for worshipping ancestors. Many businesses close this week, so although Obon is not a public holiday, many people have the week off (sort of like the week between Christmas and New Years). My friend's daughter and niece, rinsing their mouths before entering the cemetary. If you don't believe me, see the photos! After their sparklers went out, the...

Jerusalem, my temporary home.

Jerusalem, my temporary home. Sunday, March 31, 2013. Who knew that when I went to Jerusalem I would learn how to herd sheep? I didn't.but we definitely took a field trip to this place where we got to herd sheep, and there were goats too! They kept themselves pretty segregated though. What did I learn from this experience? Probably that I am not cut out to be a shepherd. But really, we talked about how Jesus Christ is the good shepherd and he will always help his children find their way. How cool is that?
