中国彭阳县位于宁夏东南部边缘，六盘山东麓。介于东经106.32—106.58，北纬35.41—36.17之间，北与甘肃环县接壤，南与甘肃平凉接境，东与甘肃镇塬毗邻，西与原州区相连，土地总面积2528.65平方公里，其中耕地100万亩。现辖3镇9乡，156个行政村，808个村民小组；总人口25.9万人，其中少数民族占29.6%。年平均气温7.5℃，≥10℃积温为2500—2800℃，无霜期158天，降水量442.7毫米，地貌类型复杂多样，海拔1248—2418米，属温带半干旱气候区。早在旧石器时期就有人类居住，自秦迄明，曾先后置郡、州、县，秦长城、汉宋城廓故址犹存。1935年10月，红军长征过境并留宿。1949年8月，中国人民解放军经任山河战役拉开解放宁夏的序幕。1983年10月分设置县，隶属固原市。
