All Aboard the Hurtigruten MS Nordkapp! We had such a terrific time on the Hurtigruten! The sights, the friendships, the FOOD….everything was fabulous. We were aboard for six nights traveling north and around the top of Norway to Kirkenes, where we disembarked near the Russian border. We hope the pictures above will give you a little bit of the feel of the trip, as we spared you from hundreds more! Flickr Tag Error: Bad call to display set '72157607170541216'. Ah, spring again! From the frozen tundra of the north to blooming, colorful southern Finland! There is a lot of Russian influence in Helsinki, as the Russians took over from 1809-1917 and brought in an architect who designed buildings in the Russian style. In fact, Hollywood used Helsinki for Dr. Zhivago and Gorky Park. June 3 was our last night with our wonderful group. We had an extra day and so we decided to cross the Gulf of Finland and go to Tallinn, Estonia for the day…. Message: SSL is required.

We had a wonderful week in Amsterdam as we began our recent northern European trip. The city’s carefree ambience beckons one to wander at one’s own pace and is easy in that everyone seems to speak English flawlessly and is quite friendly. A couple bits of trivia: As you look at the photos above, you are probably asking, why are those buildings so narrow? It’s because property was taxed on frontage. What about the gables (the facades at roof level) on top of the buildings? Message: SSL is required. 8221; ...

BEIJING, Some of the wonderful people and places. We landed in Beijing to the sound of symphony music coming over the speakers in the airport. What a wonderful way to fill us up with beauty and calm after 24 hours traveling. The food was incredible—–wonderfully fresh vegetables, delicious dumplings, the moistest and tastiest duck we’ve ever had, and so much more—quite different from Chinese food we’ve had here in the States, as it wasn’t smothered in salt, soggy, or ov...We fell in love with the parks...

Looking at the map, you can see we started our journey in Beijing, flew to Wuhan, bussed to Yichang, river cruised up the Yangtze (to Chongqing), and from there flew to Xian. Xian means west peace (xi=west, an=peace): Two thousand years ago Xian was the political center of China, when Emperor Qin became the first emperor to rule over a unified China, joining the area east of Xian with the area west (after destroying his rivals! ELI RESPONDS TO OUR CHINA TRIP. Eli loves his new outfit from China, and being a cell phone lover as well, is calling his friends to tell them about it. In the second picture, Eli has just enjoyed his book on eyes, and wants everyone to know his favorite Chinese proverb: A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. LIJIANG, Yunnan Province, SW China. Lijiang (beautiful river) sits at an altitude of 8.280 feet in the foothills of the Himalayas. Our flight there descended through majestic mountains and over lush valleys dappled with shadows and light, blues and greens. We took the cable car up to 18,360 foot Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which was an adventure in itself. You don’t see any pictures because we were fogged in! Lijiang is quite charming and different with its mountain minority groups and dramatic terrain.
