Windfall

Saturday, December 6, 2014. Folks who remember my old schooner Windfall. Remember her black hull, white trim and tanbark (dark red) sails. When I first acquired the boat in 1985 she had a white hull and white sails. My ideal dream vessel in those days was the Baltic schooner. A three-masted beauty which just happened to have a black hull, white trim and tanbark sails. Immediately upon purchasing my new schooner I painted her black and ordered red sails. My sail maker tried to talk me out of the red sails.

Windfall: August 2011

http://schoonerwindfall.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 1, 2011. The season is now in full swing! Hard to believe it's already August. For the past two weeks the Windfall II has been sailing four and sometimes five cruises a day. The sailing school has been as busy as I want it to be, considering the high temperatures and I've had some really great students. By now I've recovered my investment in the teaching sloop, but who needs more boats? See "Plures Naves Quam Mentes"). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Windfall: MAKING HOOPS

http://schoonerwindfall.blogspot.com/2013/01/making-hoops.html

Thursday, January 24, 2013. It's hard to believe that less than a year has passed since the skipjack Wilma Lee. The certification process had become considerably more complicated since I'd last gone through it 27 years before with my schooner. I mentioned that the skipjack was 95% restored. The boat was originally built in Wingate, MD in 1940 by a famous shipwright named Bronza Parks. She dredged oysters on Chesapeake Bay until 1996 when, badly rotted, she was purchased by Herb Carden of Sandy Po...As Mr...

Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Our facebook page (so I'm told) is: Schooner Windfall II Charters and Sailing School. Sundae's shop is: The Black Schooner. Check 'em out. Monday, May 2, 2011. Or so I'm told.). I managed to "upload" some. Yeah, I know - the jib halyard's too slack! The Rainbow is really fun to sail! I took my girls out yesterday in a light breeze and about a dozen dolphins met us right outside the harbor. Four-year-old Mariah Daisy was ecstatic when they came up almost within touching range.

http://islanddaily.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Musings, stories and photographs about my life on a small island off the coast of North Carolina. Wednesday, August 11, 2010. If you've visited Ocracoke even once (even if you just drove through on your way to the Hatteras ferry), you surely know about the Lighthouse. Odds are good that you know about the British Cemetery. And if you've visited fairly recently, you most likely noticed the historic marker commemorating the Beach Jumpers, on Highway 12 just outside the village. Links to this post. Please b...

http://islanddaily.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Musings, stories and photographs about my life on a small island off the coast of North Carolina. Monday, July 12, 2010. I found a broken sand dollar in my lap, which had been on the dashboard. My sister did a wonderful job of calming me down and calling 911. My back and neck hurt immediately, so I got an ambulance ride to the hospital on a backboard (two words: seriously uncomfortable), but the CAT scan showed no major injuries ("just" whiplash, I suppose.which is enough.ouch). Musings, stories and photographs about my life on a small island off the coast of North Carolina. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Things we take for granted. The island is faring well so far during this storm. There's the usual flooding in the standard areas where it's expected, but no major issues that I've heard about. I haven't seen anyone kayaking down my street, so it's not as bad as that nor'easter last November. (Or at least not yet, anyway.). Links to this post. Links to this post. 3-6" of heavy ra...

Musings, stories and photographs about my life on a small island off the coast of North Carolina. Sunday, April 17, 2011. Toni was smarter than they thought. My Mom and I attended the final performance of "We Must Kill Toni" today, and it was terrific! The cast was made up of 5 Ocracoke School students, all of whom did a great job and had many lines to memorize. The set was amazing.the Community Center was completely transformed! Oh, and don't worry.they didn't kill Toni. She was a smart cookie.
