Peace, Paradise, and Parasites. Monday, May 25, 2015. Looking back over the camp, the 4 days seemed to take all of 10 minutes, and it was a complete success! Peace, Paradise, and Parasites: The Year Mark

http://www.scoltonphilippines.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-year-mark.html

Peace, Paradise, and Parasites. Sunday, July 6, 2014. I have a secret to tell you all. I'm in a relationship. It's been serious for quite some time now, with good days and bad. I've mentioned this, but never calling it a “relationship”. I have plans tonight to take my date to a nice fancy restaurant with candles and red roses everywhere to celebrate a very special day in our relationship: our one year anniversary! Or at least, I would do this if my date fit inside a restaurant. Surprise! Did I get you?

Peace, Paradise, and Parasites: November 2013

http://www.scoltonphilippines.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Peace, Paradise, and Parasites. Thursday, November 21, 2013. And this was just one group in one city. I've heard of so many people helping and giving, it makes my heart warm. Also, take note that Yolanda starts with a “Y.” That means by this point there had already been 25 typhoons in the Philippines THIS YEAR! I just started it, but it's a really good eye-opener for everything that's affecting the environment here. The American dollar goes so far in the Philippines! I don't know any rates for how far do...

Peace, Paradise, and Parasites: Shocks of Home

http://www.scoltonphilippines.blogspot.com/2015/02/shocks-of-home.html

Peace, Paradise, and Parasites. Sunday, February 8, 2015. First off, I want to apologize for how late this post is coming out. No excuse, I've just been lazy :) Anyway, as most of you know, I went home for Christmas and New Years, completely surprising my family! It was an awesome surprise and such a nice break from the Philippines, even if every day was completely packed and I only had 2 actual days at home. I visited family in California, arrived in Indiana to surprise my parents on the 24. I'd been li...

Where's Janelle?: Gunslinging

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013/03/gunslinging.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. In two more months I will officially be finished with my 2½ years of Peace Corps service. My experiences here in Pohnpei, Micronesia have undoubtedly influenced my perspective of the world (how lofty! And will most definitely stay with me for the rest of my life. Mushy thoughts aside, I have been up to plenty things since the last blog post. Improvising is a way of life here, for sure. Much more significantly…I got accepted int...

Where's Janelle?: November 2012

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Thursday, November 22, 2012. M77 Team Pohnpei – you will be dearly missed, not just by me but by all of the lives you have influenced over your two years here. I am so fortunate to have been with you for my own Peace Corps service – I could not have imagined it any other way. I wish you the best in whatever the future holds for you. Natalya and Erin – thanks for the memories that will always bring a smile to my face. Molly and Cori Jo – my girls. We ended up...

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013/02/beneath-pale-moonlight.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Monday, February 4, 2013. Beneath the pale moonlight. Coming back to Pohnpei this time around was less difficult for me in the sense that I have a specific project I want to complete before I am ready to leave for good. I am pleased with the students I have been able to instruct, the teachers I have been able to work with, the connections (both with locals and with mehn wai. That the MHS library will be sustainable. How am I accomplishing this? Along with th...

Where's Janelle?: Sweet Home Chicago

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013/08/sweet-home-chicago.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Better late than never, huh? I don’t even know where to begin, dear reader, it’s been so long! This is entirely my fault, as I let the winds of change sweep me away this past summer without taking the proper time to reflect back on the entirety of my Peace Corps service. And Brad, one of my best buddies in the latter half of my service. I even got the chance to see Brad one last time before he's off to Hawaii - pai mwahu. I got to s...

Where's Janelle?: April 2013

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Monday, April 22, 2013. It’s a tiny one, but still! I have been packing a lot into my last few weeks here in Pohnpei. School-wise, my computer class is learning how to navigate Microsoft Word (when there is cash power). I also had the guts to speak in Pohnpeian at my final PTA meeting, which turned out pretty well. In the library, students from all levels have been captivated by…American pop culture magazines. Thank you Pennoyer Elementary School 8. I am als...

Where's Janelle?: January 2013

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Monday, January 28, 2013. Before heading off on vacation I spent my last few weeks on Pohnpei wrapping up my classes (juniors wrote outlines and essays, seniors compared the novels they read the past semester and retold Micronesian legends), marveling at the progress of the MHS library (all thanks to the librarian), submitting my graduate school applications (wish me luck! At the only movie theater in the F.S.M. (on opening night, no less! Good food, good fr...

Where's Janelle?: April 2012

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Thursday, April 26, 2012. To clear an area; to cut or pull grass. As part of a community service requirement for the MHS juniors, they recently went to mwet. At a local home. I, as a junior advisor, decided to go with them to supervise their work and help out a bit. It was lots of fun just hanging out with my students and, of course, getting away from school for a day. As a reward for a job well done, my students received sakau. What are YOU looking at?

Where's Janelle?: Acting like a mehn wai

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013/04/acting-like-mehn-wai.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Acting like a mehn wai. When you have 40 days left in a country where you’ve been living for over 2½ years, you would too. It’s slowly sinking in that I will actually be leaving Pohnpei and not be coming back for another ten years (or at least that’s what I tell the random people who ask me this question). Marriage propositions have tripled for me – I’ve even gotten an offer from my nohno kahlap. Stations of the Cross on Good Friday.

Where's Janelle?: In a rain cloud

http://wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013/04/in-rain-cloud.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Monday, April 8, 2013. In a rain cloud. Just wanted to share with you, dear reader, two events that happened to me this past Saturday. I know – it’s crazy how much I’ve been updating. With five weeks left in Pohnpei I need to make the most of my remaining time here. Though I’m not going to miss pigs entering my shower! I met President Emanuel Mori of the Federated States of Micronesia. Location: Kolonia, Pohnpei, Micronesia. April 8, 2013 at 4:37 PM. Really,...

Perth SharePoint User Group Presentation Review. On 29/08/2013 8:45 PM. I've finally done my first public presentation as a professional; and I'll have to admit the nerves didn't hit until I was in Microsoft's seminar room.   Counting heads wasn't the first thing on my mind but on review I think there were around 50 people in attendance which I'm certainly happy about given this was my first shot on the stage. What level of support does Microsoft offer for SharePoint 2013 Search and HP Trim? There is, bu...
