Galashiels
http://scottishancestralways.co.uk/ancways_01_007.htm
In the summer of 2008 we spent some time in the town of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders region. The name Galashiels is derived from shiels or shielings which means dwellings, this is usually preceded by a place or personal name, hence Galashiels means dwellings by the Gala Water. Galashiels has long been associated with the textile trade and the first references to three fulling mills in the town can be traced back to 1585. Photographs were taken of several locations including;.

War Memorials
http://scottishancestralways.co.uk/ancways_01_014.htm
As we travelled around the country visiting many cities, towns and villages, it seemed a good idea to photograph the war memorials in detail. These will be added as we go along and may be accessed free of charge. If you need a high resolution copy please email us and a free copy will be sent. Dunfermline has seperate memorials for the first and second world wars. Suggestions for other memorial visits welcomed. Walking in your ancestors footsteps. Auchtermuchty
http://scottishancestralways.co.uk/ancways_01_009.htm
The Royal Burgh of Auchtermuchty lies in north east Fife on the A91 as it makes its way from the M90 towards Cupar and St Andrews. It's one of those places that people don't want to have to ask directions for: a four syllable mouthful by any standards. Which is probably why it's known to its residents simply as 'Muchty. In East Wemyss, the town of his birth, a street was named after him. Walking in your ancestors footsteps. View pictures from Auchtermuchty.
Dunfermline

Walking in your ancestors footsteps. Dunfermline Abbey is the resting place of King Robert the Bruce, although his heart is in Melrose. There are many very old headstones in the graveyard surrounding the Abbey. View photographs from the Abbots House. View photographs from Pittencrieff Park. View photographs from Dunfermline Abbey.
