El Aikido enfatiza la evasión y la redirección circular o espiral de la fuerza de agresión del atacante, generando caídas, lanzamientos, inmovilizaciones y palancas como estrategia primaria, más que golpes y patadas. El aikido es un arte marcial de origen japonés (como el Karate, el Judo y el Ken Do) creado por O"Sensei (Gran Maestro) Morihei Ueshiba. Quien durante toda su vida practicó varias artes marciales en una búsqueda personal dentro del Budo (camino del guerrero). Impregnadas en la filosofía zen y el pensamiento shinto, las técnicas de aikido no buscan la destrucción del oponente, sino su control mediante palancas y/o proyecciones, lo que las hace sumamente efectivas para la defensa personal.
