Rough Edges and Back Alleyways of San Francisco. Across Romolo from the mural is the Basque Hotel. Even though North Beach has been the home for the Italian population, in the early 20th century many Basque sheep ranchers who lived nearby would board in the hotel when they came to town. The hotel is still there although their clientele doesn't include a lot of Basques these days.

Rough Edges and Back Alleyways of San Francisco. Ramer Place is just off Greenwich near Grant and it connects to Jack Micheline Place. Apparently it has been there for quite awhile. It's listed in the 1910 San Francisco City Guide. Its block long distance drops precipitously to a dead-end. There is barely enough room on either side for one car to negotiate the street, let alone try to pass. Since it is so steep, anyone going down it fast is at risk of running smack into the solid wall at the end.
