Vow of Silence | Shatter the Mirror

https://shatterthemirrorpoetry.wordpress.com/2016/04/26/vow-of-silence/comment-page-1

April 26, 2016. April 26, 2016. I don’t want to marry you. Because I couldn’t speak. And anyway, who would listen to a girl. With hands rough from weaving. Nettles. The cloth is dyed with my blood. The nettles I have chosen but not the crown. I’m not betraying you. Because I couldn’t speak. And anyway, who would believe a girl. Who didn’t want to be queen, who slipped. Under the moon to labor like a servant. The nettles I have chosen but not the crown. I’m not a witch. Because I couldn’t speak. You are c...

The Miller’s Daughter. April 22, 2016. April 22, 2016. Out of ideas, so I turned to fairytales once again. I got thinking about how, in Rumplestiltskin, we know nothing about the heroine. This wasn’t originally supposed to be a sonnet or to rhyme, but it fell into place. For all this talk of names no one asks for mine. I have one guess it if you like. It’s easy, fine. For a sturdy girl who feels a fraud,. Fingers pricked by needle and straw. I suppose it doesn’t matter to men. My second-born, one nobody.

April 30, 2016. April 30, 2016. Today’s prompt was a translation poem. I took a translation class a few years ago and still have some books from Mariangela Gualtieri, an Italian poet who I considered for my project but didn’t end up using. I pulled out. This mountain is steep, but I must. Power through. This stone can conquer anything. It conquers me daily. The slightest tremor. And my progress comes to pieces. The path to love smells like smoke,. And the world has taken me prisoner. April 29, 2016.

Everything Ends Up in the Bin | Shatter the Mirror

https://shatterthemirrorpoetry.wordpress.com/2016/04/28/everything-ends-up-in-the-bin

Everything Ends Up in the Bin. April 28, 2016. April 28, 2016. Today’s prompt involved telling a story backwards. I messed around with several options on my way home tonight, but once I got home I pulled out my Hans Christian Andersen book and wrote down some of the most intriguing final (or close to final) lines from his stories. The italicized lines are the borrowed ones, and I built each little poem-let from the quote without taking the story it came from into consideration. She cried for him, but a f...

April 30, 2016. Like a crow without wings,. I fall toward syllables. Recording caws climbing up from cracks in my soul. The first line of this poem is adapted from a line in Linda Hogan’s poem Skin. Her line is like crows without wings. For our final poem of April, Elizabeth suggested. That we write a piece to anchor our work this month. July 4, 2015. Ancient grains of hope, stories survive. Breathe.through.it.all. An open letter to my readers…. It’s been a while. So- it turns out, this blog is one of the best, and worst things that I’ve ever done. Lets start with the good stuff. The amount of people I’ve connected with over these subjects is truly amazing and I’m so thankful to have so much support! I AM SO MUCH MORE. We’re all only human. How To Be... | shattering the should-be's

How To Be…. Shattering the should-be's. How to Be…An Asshole. June 21, 2015. By the time I caught the train at 61st Street to get to the Queens 10k in Flushing Meadow Park, I was sweating profusely. At nearly 80 degrees and 80% humidity I couldn’t blink without sending rivulets of sweat down my face, down my boobs and down my butt. This made me cranky. I was tired. And hot. And didn’t have a very winning attitude. People are SO rude,. I thought as a dude elbowed past me. What the hell is her problem?
