Iyengar Yoga, named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, is a form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the asanas. Iyengar Yoga is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras. Pranayama | Westend Yoga Centre
http://www.westendyogacentre.com.au/node/29
Pranayama, the practice of controlling the breath, to be more accurate Pranayama is the combination of "pran", the life force, with "ayama", meaning expansion. In this sense pranayama expands the life force though all levels of our being, physical, psychological and spiritual. The breath is key to understanding "pran", and the variety of different breathing techniques develop it's expansion. In the process, the mind and body are calmed, rejuvenated, and uplifted.
