Kiwi Crossings: Full circle
http://kiwicrossings.blogspot.com/2010/01/full-circle.html
I am realizing a dream. .A dream to see, .smell, eat and hear what is New Zealand. .ENJOY. Monday, January 25, 2010. The day I arrived in New Zealand, I had my head shaved by a very nice hairdresser in Auckland. To come full circle, I went back to him the day I left New Zealand. I had been growing my hair out since April and so decided to get my hair blowdried that time. When I showed up, he recognized me! March 21, 2011 at 6:38 AM. April 15, 2011 at 7:39 PM. Kiwi Crossings: September 2008

I am realizing a dream. .A dream to see, .smell, eat and hear what is New Zealand. .ENJOY. Thursday, September 25, 2008. Arrivals and Other Things. On September 3rd, I arrived in the largest city in New Zealand: Auckland, which still only has 1.2 million people living there (a far cry from the 12 million I dealt with daily in Seoul). It is a quaint place, very reminiscent of Sydney, actually, in terms of architecture and the way the city has been planned. I've never seen such a thing. I think Montreal...

Kiwi Crossings: Taa Moko
http://kiwicrossings.blogspot.com/2009/08/taa-moko.html
I am realizing a dream. .A dream to see, .smell, eat and hear what is New Zealand. .ENJOY. Friday, August 28, 2009. I did a lot of research, looking for someone who would give me a taa moko, a Maori tattoo. I wanted it done the traditional way, with a chisel, something organic and spiritual. I found Rangi Kipa, a well-known and well-respected carver and tattoo artist. He, along with a few of his friends, brought about the resurgence of traditional chiseled taa moko 17 years ago. Close-up of uhi (chisels).

Kiwi Crossings: June 2009
http://kiwicrossings.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
I am realizing a dream. .A dream to see, .smell, eat and hear what is New Zealand. .ENJOY. Saturday, June 27, 2009. John Bevan Ford and Julia Morison. Back in January, when I was exploring Tauranga, I went to the Tauranga Art Gallery and they had an exhibition on two well-known Kiwi artists. Again, as with other parts of the country, it was free entry with the option of a donation, which makes me want to pay because I like being given the choice. Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Wellington: the capital of New Zeal...

I am realizing a dream. .A dream to see, .smell, eat and hear what is New Zealand. .ENJOY. Sunday, April 12, 2009. Not 10 minutes have passed since I finished reading "The Bone People" by Keri Hulme, a well-respected Kiwi author. And it resonates within me. And so I must let it out. There are moments in your life when something will take hold of you, drawing you in until you can not wait to be immersed in it every time you are separated from it. Art has a funny way of doing such things. Since arriving in ...

Kiwi Crossings: Taranaki
http://kiwicrossings.blogspot.com/2009/08/taranaki.html
I am realizing a dream. .A dream to see, .smell, eat and hear what is New Zealand. .ENJOY. Thursday, August 27, 2009. In Maori legend two mountains, Taranaki and Tongariro (the latter located in Taupo) both fell in love with Pihanga. They battled over her and Tongariro won the battle, sending Taranaki off and down to the Western coast of the north island where he now rests outside of New Plymouth. Waitara is a suburb of New Plymouth, about 20 minutes away. This marae is the only marae I have actually been...

Kiwi Crossings: November 2008
http://kiwicrossings.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
I am realizing a dream. .A dream to see, .smell, eat and hear what is New Zealand. .ENJOY. Wednesday, November 26, 2008. The concept is that there are several pools of "water" having different names related to what people thought they might represent. First we went to see some of the bubbling pools of mud. That was pretty cool because it's not every day that you see mud literally boiling in front of your eyes. The best part is that it is completely natural! How insane is that? Bubbling Mud in Action.
