St. John's Missionaries in Slovakia: January 2011
http://slovakiayear.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
St John's Missionaries in Slovakia. Sunday, January 16, 2011. There are several differences in shopping in Martin, from the shopping done in the California. First, we must remember to bring our own bags. The stores do not pack your purchases. Some stores have bags, but they usually charge for them. Most people just bring their own bags. Here you see Gary ready to shop. Jeannine has her backpack also. They’re going to charge us to use their baskets! The Slovaks love their bread. There are so many diff...

St. John's Missionaries in Slovakia: May 2011
http://slovakiayear.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
St John's Missionaries in Slovakia. Monday, May 30, 2011. Friday was a beautiful day. Why not see some specialized Slovak art? Since 2004 when we found some beautiful baskets woven in intricate designs, we had been wishing to see an exhibit in Žilina about wireworks in Slovakia. Originally it was at an outlying castle, but had been moved to a museum, on a main square. That was our first stop. It was beautiful art as the picture below illustrates. No, we would not have found it without her help. We had pl...

We caught another bus in. Then we took a one hour flight to. We spent five nights there and soaked up as much warmth and sun as we could. We saw many historical places. I believe that if I were originally from this beautiful area, I would run away from. The Dalmatian Palace Walls were laid in 300 AD. In Split we sa...

St. John's Missionaries in Slovakia: October 2010
http://slovakiayear.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
St John's Missionaries in Slovakia. Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Reconnecting in Banska Bytrica. We were invited to spend the weekend in Banska Bystrica by one of Gary’s students, Zuzana, from 2004. We went Saturday morning because we did not want to miss The Truth Project that we were watching and discussing in our Friday night Bible Study. Zuzana tried to show us another museum, but it was closed for lunch. So we went home to another wonderful dinner with duck and cabbage and an apple cake. We di...Altho...

St. John's Missionaries in Slovakia: June 2011
http://slovakiayear.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
St John's Missionaries in Slovakia. Friday, June 17, 2011. One Hundred and Fifty Years! Well it has been a hundred and fifty years since that event happened right here at the Bible School. In fact, when everyone convened, it was raining so the representatives asked if they could meet inside the church. The church doors were opened and that is where the memorandum was debated, written, read, changed etc. Then at 17,00 (5:00 PM) we went into the church to see an reenactment written to remind people of this...

St. John's Missionaries in Slovakia: March 2011
http://slovakiayear.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
St John's Missionaries in Slovakia. Wednesday, March 30, 2011. One day, Katka comes to our apartment with a beautiful young woman whom she introduces as Andrea Hybevoa. Yes this is the young woman who is coming (as if I’m there already) to the Central Coast of CA and be a part of St. John’s in Arroyo Grande and Bethel in Santa Maria this summer. It turns out that she was in one of the classes that Gary taught in Žilina before Christmas. We went on a walk, up the road from the canyon. We could see the...

St. John's Missionaries in Slovakia: September 2010
http://slovakiayear.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
St John's Missionaries in Slovakia. Saturday, September 25, 2010. Looking at the calendar, I see it is the last weekend in September. We will be missing the Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival. Today, Gary and I need to go to the farmers' market to buy fruit and house slippers. As soon as we get to the Centrum in the center of the square, we can hear music and see a group of older Fiats in the center of the square. Something out of the ordinary is definitely happening. Friday, September 17, 2010. As I wake up...
