Soaring has been a part of south central Kansas for more than half a century due to the enthusiastic efforts of pilots who joined together to further the art of soaring. There are currently four main associations in the Wichita and Hutchinson area. Each association was formed to serve it's unique purpose and location primarily separates them. Sunflower, KSA, and WSA. Is the home of KSA. If you are visiting and do not need a training glider you will need to belong to KSA (and SSA) to qualify for tows.

KSA operates a towplane, which is based at Sunflower Gliderport near Yoder, KS. Also, KSA rents a high performance two-place Grob G103 sailplane available to club members who are licensed glider pilots (3 hour checkout required). Was established in 1985 to provide glider-towing service for the Wichita Gliderport. A need to provide other glider services has moved Sky-Larks Towplane to assume coordination and operation of other soaring activities at the Wichita Gliderport, making available easier participation in soaring activities in the Wichita area. Identifier SN76, originally "Hutchinson Naval Air Station") is located south of Hutchinson Kansas. Bill Seed donated the gliderport sometime in 2013-2014 to a 501(C)(3), Sunflower Soaring Foundation. It is now owned by the Sunflower Soaring Foundation. Thanks Bill and thank you to all of the hard working members. The Bill Seed Soaring Scholarship:. Wichita Skylarks Soaring Association. Was organized in 1982 for the purpose of bringing to the Wichita community modern State-of-the-Art soaring equipment. Eight families established the organization and brought to Wichita a new high performance two-place sailplane designed and manufactured by I.C.A. Brasov, Romania and identified as an IS-32 Lark. The association currently has two aircraft (both two-place), a German, Grob G-103 Acro and a Romanian, IS-28-B2 Lark.
