Bringing Mise en Scene into the 21st Century. Monday, May 24, 2010. Exit Through the Gift Shop. Over the course of my artistic education I thought that graffiti was under-appreciated as an art-form, then Banksy hit the scene in my art periphery and I was happy to see the medium gaining fast acceptance. In the mean time, Banksy has become ridiculously overexposed and commoditized and the mere sight of a rat on a wall sends people around into hysterical fits of "I'm hip! LOOK WHAT I KNOW ABOUT ART! SOIL Studios: October 2008

http://soilstudios.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Bringing Mise en Scene into the 21st Century. Thursday, October 23, 2008. Casanova, Damn you Fellini! Every so often I see a film that makes me cry, and makes me reevaluate a hatred I have for a director. When a director shows me something so personal, so touching and manages to convince me that they were doing something with their work beyond self-gratification. I am now adding another film to the slowly growing list. DAMN YOU, FELLINI! Can't stand when women are dubbed, and thought 8 1/2. 2) Anderson -...

SOIL Studios: HAPPY TRICENTENNIAL!

http://soilstudios.blogspot.com/2009/02/happy-tricentennial.html

Bringing Mise en Scene into the 21st Century. Sunday, February 22, 2009. The Passion of Charlie Sheen. That's the most views any piece of art I've ever uploaded has received! I know a lot of people out there who have 400,000,000,000 hits for their cat barfing twinkle twinkle little star, but I'm just happy that 300 random strangers stumbled upon my project and maybe made it through the first five seconds. SOIL Studios: Expressions of Light

http://soilstudios.blogspot.com/2009/02/expressions-of-light.html

Bringing Mise en Scene into the 21st Century. Saturday, February 28, 2009. I've started on a project that represents a strong move away from traditional linear narrative and brings me more in line with installation. My big inspiration on this is the writings of Christian Metz. The first six videos are up on Youtube. And over the coming months, you can expect to see a lot more of them. SOIL Studios: April 2009

http://soilstudios.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Bringing Mise en Scene into the 21st Century. Saturday, April 25, 2009. Expressions of Light 8: Alamo Square. I went for a walk to return a slug in our kitchen to its natural habitat. I wound up at Alamo square and decided to try out some of the night features on my phone. I am constantly struck dumb by the quality of the pictures my camera takes. Film itself is gelatin based, so PETA start boycotting the film industry! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Follow me on Twitter.

SOIL Studios: from ///Froth///

http://soilstudios.blogspot.com/2009/03/from-froth.html

Bringing Mise en Scene into the 21st Century. Thursday, March 12, 2009. From / /Froth/ /. Here's an excerpt from an interview that "indieWIRE" did with filmmakers Nick Dorsky and Stan Brakhage. IW: Jem Cohen has a similar bag sequence in "Lost Book Found," from 1996, which is also a city film. At this point, the film was maybe at the beginning of post-production. She says "Oh, it's a love story." I said, "Why do you want to see it? Dorsky: Have you heard Stan's "Superman" story before? The difference is ...

Sequential Theology: June 2009

http://sequentialtheology.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

It's more pretentious than it sounds. Wednesday, June 3, 2009. No words, should have sent a poet. I love Neil Gaiman, the man was a visionary. I'm glad that he can sail on gently into the sunset selling $15.99 hardcover copies of Edward Gorey Burton-esque cabaret/goth delite for every generation (THE MAN HAS CHILDRENS' BOOKS! Dually aware of my article apery et regurgitation. Tuition dollars at work! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Follow me on Twitter. The SOIL Studios Blog.

Sequential Theology: Jack Kirby (Jack Kurtzberg)

http://sequentialtheology.blogspot.com/2010/02/jack-kirby-jack-kurtzberg.html

It's more pretentious than it sounds. Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Jack Kirby (Jack Kurtzberg). His style has fluctuated over the years from sketchy and athletic during The Golden age. To the bold thick lines and “Kirby Crackle” he became famous for in the Silver Age. Every book he touched seemed to have a style all its own. The artist that drew Captain America punching Hitler seems to be a completely different person from the guy who drew wacky space technology for the Fantastic Four. Follow me on Twitter.

Sequential Theology: February 2010

http://sequentialtheology.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

It's more pretentious than it sounds. Tuesday, February 9, 2010. The Road to the Jack Kirby Entry. This is the Simon and Kirby gallery. Jack wrote a book to interpret the nightmares of teenage girls. Oh, yeah. Of course. WTF! Alan Moore and Kirby photo in an article on Marvel's purchase of the Miracle/MarvelMan. McCartney and Magneto a la Kirby. Final thoughts: Reading Ditko's Spider-Man in black and white makes sense. Kirby's Fantastic Four? I think I'd need that in color. Jack Kirby (Jack Kurtzberg).
