Why study to become a Sommelier? There are many qualifications one can puruse to work in the wine industry. In France and Italy there are national standard examinations and in England there is the WSET which is also recognized internationally. In Japan, the government does not provide a qualification for wine, but there is a prestigious one offered by the Japanese Sommelier Association which licenses examinees as sommeliers, wine advisors and wine experts depending on their industry and experience.
