english teacher: January 2007
http://bigsbytiggs.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 30, 2007. My blog - super8mama.livejournal.com. Has been on hiatus since November 30th. This week marks the beginning of a new semester both in my teaching and in my schooling. It seems a convenient time to return to my writing. I blogged all my lesson plans for a couple of months. but in November during NaNoWriMo. I eliminated that from my workload to clear the way for the novel. Posted by Salome Milstead. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Teaching to Change the World. View my complete profile.

http://bigsbytiggs.blogspot.com/2008/02/we-finally-began-reading-today.html
Wednesday, February 20, 2008. We FINALLY began reading today. I also assigned homework - the kids asked for 20 points for doing it. Seemed reasonable. I like letting them choose the points they get for their work. It's a vocab worksheet. We'll see how this comes out. Most kids haven't brought in binders. I have several extras so I think I'll just give them to the kids and not give them points. Oh, and most every student read their do now out loud. That was fantastic. We need more of this.

Monday, April 23, 2007. One of the things that have influenced this is something I read regarding the shooter in the Virginia Tech incident. When he read aloud in his English class (undoubtedly he was required to do so), classmates ridiculed his accent and told him to go back to China. I wondered when I read this, where were the adults in all of the bullying he edured? Posted by Salome Milstead. Tuesday, April 10, 2007. 10th Grade Honors English. Posted by Salome Milstead. english teacher: Grades and the Great Psyche-out
http://bigsbytiggs.blogspot.com/2007/03/grades-and-great-psyche-out.html
Wednesday, March 7, 2007. Grades and the Great Psyche-out. Okay I think I get the real. Grades are feedback for the student. It follows that I should be using grades to motivate my students to take my class seriously, do their work, and respect me as a teacher. Right? So, in the tradition of the Murgisteads, I psyche-em-out. And it always has the desired effect. The student will start to sputter, "that's not what I meant, of course I want. Come to class, right? Their writing. This is in conflict with...

Hey there, i've been in lala land, sick, create blogs, grading, etc. I don't look like a Cheerio, I look like an Armenian :) perhaps an olive colored cheerio? Well, as you can see on my blog, it's been stressful, as it has been for yours. April 17, 2007 at 10:40 PM. April 20, 2007 at 9:22 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). english teacher: english class
http://bigsbytiggs.blogspot.com/2008/02/english-class.html
Thursday, February 14, 2008. Today I had plans to finish the apartment collages and vocab. Half the class wasn't there and there was some rumor that we were supposed to be at an assembly. we walked over and were at the wrong place. it was embarrassing because they made a whole big deal about how we weren't supposed to be there - so the kids were singled out as being academy and soda. we were all made to feel stupid. I will continue with this approach for solo work. Posted by Salome Milstead.

Do your lessons before you teach them. It's not that I don't know that. And when I've done it - my lessons are definitely better. There are different levels of lessons and sometimes, rehearsing adds nothing. Why rehearse a lesson plan where you are going to show a film? But an interesting thing happened. You ink a cel by putting a glob of paint...
