Tuesday, March 30, 2010. 1 One of the causes of the Civil War was the issue of states' rights, or the right for states to determine their own laws (but not violate federal laws). While secession was an extreme response to the issue of states' rights, are there any political issues today that could spark a strong response by the states to federal mandates. Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Q How did the events of the Civil War affect individuals? The civil war not only tore the union apart but it tore families apart as well, many families were broken up brother against brother. Not to mention all the people who lost family members, it affected many individuals i mean HELLOoOo0o0o0. People lost their lives in that war of course individuals were affected.
