One of the true highlights of our vacation was our first night on the boat. we docked and set up camp, waiting for the flying foxes to come out. As mentioned previously, the captain was fishing off the back of the boat. you can see the nice fish he caught. W enjoyed watching him fish. Sunday morning we woke up and made our way into town to try to go church. there isn't a ward or branch in labuan bajo, but we thought we'd go to catholic service. unfortunately, we missed the service (we got there right as it ended). so we ended up walking around town and figuring out the next step in our vacation adventure. A morning view of the harbor. Some boats getting worked on. Some boats ready to be used. The covered shading is so smart.

Day two was mostly hiking around the komodo national park, but we did get in one snorkeling spot. and it was an interesting one. the water wasn't as clear as some spots we went to, but we saw some interesting creatures and some good coral. The next morning (thursday, july 2), we got up early to catch our ride down to the harbor to get on our boat. Things that grow out of the soil. Monday, July 27, 2015. Komodo Trip- Day 2. Early morning on day two in the boat. the sun rise was lovely. The moon was still out. As always in indonesia, the sun was up early. these shots are taken a little before 6am. We headed off to the main komodo national park entrance on rinca island. Some other folks were headed there too. Our boat docked. we were surprised to see there were crocodiles in the water here. We saw some deer upon entering the park. A map of the park.

We had our dinner at a quiet, little restaurant. the food was good, and it was nice to get away from the crowds. we then bought our kecak (balinese dance) performance tickets and walked over to the pura where it was being held. Here we are at the pura waiting for the performance to start. Cathy bought s plumeria hair clips. we put them in her hair like a crown. W and s sitting on the floor to watch the performance. Things that grow out of the soil. Monday, July 27, 2015. Ferry/Bus Trip- Day 1. Early monday morning, we woke up and checked out of our hotel. we got down to the harbor with plenty of time to board the first leg of our ferry-boat trip. it felt adventurous and exciting to board the big ferry! We found some good seats near the windows. It also made for a good sleeping spot. People putting some extra cargo on the ferry. i'm not sure why they chose to load it this way. The view from the windows were great.

Things that grow out of the soil. Monday, July 27, 2015. Komodo Trip- Day 3 in the Water. Our final day, sadly, on the boat was another big snorkeling day. we hit three different spots. First, we went to the famous pantai merah (pink beach) on komodo island. Pink beach was nice, and although it's very popular, wasn't crowded either.although arriving at about 6:30am does help. It was a beautiful morning in lombok (which, in indonesian, means chili). b and i snapped some pictures as we zoomed by things on the bus. It was very green.
