Straightfork Farm: Finally a Break in the Rain
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015/07/finally-break-in-rain.html
Thursday, July 23, 2015. Finally a Break in the Rain. Dew damp crias. They really are white, but they love a good roll in the dust . I think the one on the right is B'Nita's cria and the bigger one on the left is Trillium's. They are joined at the hip. Here they are withe B'Nita. For some reason these 3 lingered in the pasture when everyone else came in for morning grain. So everyone around here is mowing hay, Sam included. Never have we done second cutting in July before! I finished the lace shawl with ...

Straightfork Farm: May 2015
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 28, 2015. Great Lakes Fiber Festival and Waiting. We will be back again next year. The 2 alpacas in the front of this photo. Are the 2 I am waiting on to deliver crias. They are still not here. Maybe next week I will have better news on that front. They will come when they are ready and not before. After 16 years of crias, I know this, but it is still aggravating to wait and wait and wait. The carrots and beets, behind the lettuce, are now big enough that I can discriminate between them and...

Straightfork Farm: September 2014
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 25, 2014. Yes, the Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs, Ohio was this past weekend, and I came home with 3 bags of lovely, crimpy, greasy wool. My alpaca/wool blend yarn has sold better than the 100% alpaca yarns, so much so that I have only 1 skein of it left. Here's a close up of the wool. I washed a sample of it and believe it or not, it is quite white once washed. I neglected to photograph my washed sample however. Mom took this with her camera of me next to my yarn. I forgot to phot...

Straightfork Farm: April 2015
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 23, 2015. Spring is Burtsting Out. There are myriads of daffodils in bloom on my neighbor's property, so I took the pups up this morning and. Photographed them amongst the flowers. I call this one Daffy Dogs. My gosh, things are just popping out. We had very warm weather over then weekend, and then some rain and a cold front, so this morning we actually had a very light frost. These tulips did not appreciate it. There are buds on this vine growing on the gate. And on the peach tree. This ...

Straightfork Farm: Rain, Rain, Go Away.....
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015/07/rain-rain-go-away.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Rain, Rain, Go Away. Yes, the blanket is entirely finished! Over this past weekend, I twisted all the fringes and then I (gulp) threw the blanket in the washing machine to "full" it. Y'know when you accidentally put a good wool sweater in the washer and it comes out 3 sizes smaller and much thicker? Here is a close up of part of the blanket before fulling. And here is after fulling. It is fuzzier and not as easy to see the individual threads. And it is gloriously soft! The new c...

Straightfork Farm: November 2014
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 20, 2014. Grover, fresh from last night's bath. Of course he had to be bathed since tomorrow, Friday the 21st, is our debut agility trial! Judge). I am. Looking forward to it, despite what I write. Tonight is the second meeting of the Monroe Arts Council's Fiber Arts and Textiles group. I need to do a short presentation at that (which is why Grover got bathed last. Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Rowdy and Grover jumped tandem through the tire on Sunday! As for fiber-y stuff, my knitting h...

Straightfork Farm: Now for Some Down Time
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015/07/now-for-some-down-time.html
Thursday, July 9, 2015. Now for Some Down Time. Grover at his happiest: the center of attention! This will be short because I have mostly been on the road and have had very little time on the farm. Today, I am at the office and I have just taken my alpaca blanket off the loom! Here it is at the halfway point a week and a half ago and here it is now. It was 5.2 oz and looked like this. And now it looks like this. July 10, 2015 at 2:43 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Our business, Swiss Lands Realty.

Straightfork Farm: December 2014
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 24, 2014. After what seemed like (I think it really was) weeks of gloomy weather, we enjoyed a couple of days of beautiful sunshine this week. And with it, some warm temps. I think it is supposed to be in the 60's today, much too warm to have a white Christmas tomorrow. I am fascinated by what they are doing and one of these days I will get to see them. I think I will need to sneak up without dogs, however. Sam is building us a sugar shack to enclose our syrup evaporator so that we wi...

Straightfork Farm: February 2015
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Still in Winter's Grip. I don't think the dogs know what to make of this snow dog in the front yard. The good news is that I was. Able to try out my snowshoes! I missed posting a couple of weeks this month. That was due to the fact that I flew out to Arizona to visit my brother's family. My mom and her sister (photo on left). The weather was quite nice, fabulous in fact. Sunny and warm enough to sit by the pool during the day. I finished a lot of knitting projects, or at lea...

Straightfork Farm: August 2015
http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 27, 2015. Cleaning up and Putting up. Early morning out the back door. I have done a bit of that myself. And here is the inside of it. It is like 2 big intermeshed gears that turn and crush the apple slices as they pass through and drop into a bucket. Then they all go into the cider press. Sam is talking about picking more apples and making more cider, but I have no idea when we will find the time. Maybe this weekend. Tomorrow I plan to go and pick peaches and can those as well. It is ti...
