쓰는 자가 있고 읽는 자가 있다. 쓰는 행위가 있고 읽는 행위가 있다. 쓰기와 읽기 이 두가지는 문자라는 매개를 인연으로 서로 맞닿아 있는 전혀 다른 별개의 행위이다. 애초 한글은 읽혀지기 위해 만들어졌다. 한글의 형태는 펜이나 붓 같은 필기구나 손의 움직임에 적합하게 고안된 것이 아니라, 목판에 지식을 새겨 전파하기 위해 디자인되었다. 기하학적이며 기호적이며 일면 일방적이다. 그러나 훗날 사람들은 이를 붓으로 썼다. 한글의 기하학은 인간의 손이라는 일종의 생물학적 필터링을 거치면서 획의 방향, 순서, 비례감이 추가로 정의되었으며, 읽기와 쓰기라는 두 가지의 속성을 모두 지닌 하나의 온전한 문자가 되었다. 그런데 21세기, 우리는 이제 문자를 쓰지 않고 친다. 세상의 문자들은 이제 입력 행위라는 기계적 조작의 대상이 되었다. 세상에는 영문 알파벳처럼 타이핑이 되는 글이 있고, 한자처럼 타이핑되지 않는 글도 있다. 타이핑되지 않는 글은 다른 문자나 기호, 혹은 인터페이스를 통해 변환되고 입력되어진다.
