Natalie's My Little Pony Party. Natalie planned her birthday party for weeks. She and I spent time lying on my bed or sitting at the school table, writing lists and drawing pictures. Once it was planned, she still wanted to talk about the plans and see if there was anything else we could plan! My parents let us have the party at their house, and it was really nice to have more space and the swimming pool! After dinner we started our party activities. Each of the 6 main My Little Ponies had a differen...

Isaac's parents came to visit for a week. They stayed with us Friday noon through Sunday morning. When they arrived, Isaac was at work, so the rest of us caught up on stories, read books, and looked at photo albums together. This is looking at the album I made Isaac, before we were married, of all his old family photos. See our poor, worn out couch? Funny, but it's not funny, it's a pain! We had taco salad for dinner at home and then headed to Tutti Frutti for a treat. Family resemblance, anyone? And Jac...

Nickell Family News: 1 | 12-Hour Travel Day

1 12-Hour Travel Day. The sunrise was beautiful. I always love seeing Mt. Shasta, but was it was so, so smokey that it was very hard to see. We did like seeing this other mountain nearby though. The kids didn't believe me that a volcano that isn't erupting anymore is called extinct! They'll know soon enough, though, as it's one of our pieces of Classical Conversations memory work this upcoming year. Once we got to Coos Bay, we followed the Millicoma River into the valley. Back in their nests. Giant bowls...

A Little More in October. October was a full month; here are a few more things I want to add before it's over! Isaac and the boys went to watch a Monday night football game at Denny's house, so Natalie and I had a double date with Emery and Michelle! We had Natalie's choice of Chipotle for dinner. After stopping by the mall to make an exchange at Old Navy, we had popcorn and cider for dessert. I'm happy that splicing two photos for the one below gave me two smiles! Cooking something up in the backyard.

This was one day's harvest after I hadn't picked tomatoes for awhile. There are Cherokee Purple, Lemon Boy, Giant Belgium, Mr. Stripey, another heirloom I can't remember, Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes, and Sun Sweet yellow cherry tomatoes. Last year was not a good year for tomatoes for me,. So I've been enjoying the fact that this year is much better! Sunday, June 28, 2015. We always use the $18 big bundle coupon from Picture People and therefore only choose one pose to print. This is the one we chose:.

A Chandler Thanksgiving Slumber Party. Fortunately, some of them we caught with the camera. Overall, it was just a great chance to all be together again. Me, Sarah, Mom, and Michelle, working on making Thanksgiving dinner together. The kids were SO happy to see Aunt Sarah and Uncle Josh again after 3 long months without them. Natalie and Sarah, in their matching red aprons, refilled the salt shaker and got ready to whip cream. This mouse apron is from when I was little. Uncle Josh read a morning story.

An Impromptu Zoo Visit. At ten till nine Michelle called and asked if we'd like to join their family for Emery's first trip to the zoo. It was Tuesday and we were about to begin school, but I decided to make it a field trip day - we had a light enough load that we could make up for the missed work on other days. The kids were thrilled when I told them and all sang together,. Momma's takin' us to the zoo today, zoo today, zoo today. Momma's takin' us to the zoo today, and we can stay all day! Micah only h...

9 Boating on Tahoe. On Saturday morning I left the cabin alone to get boat tickets at the marina. It was the first time I'd been by myself for days and it occurred to me that staying in a cabin with 9 kids was. A lot of kids. And I rather enjoyed the break! By mid-morning the three of us moms and the kids headed down to the marina together. We got a lot of comments, which I thought was weird because a 1:3 ratio of moms to kids is pretty normal. The views on the lake were absolutely stunning.. Judah need...

SHEMA 2015 Lifted Up! While "performing" wasn't the point, sharing God's word well was a priority, so we had a very big day on Saturday, March 28th when the choir put the show on twice, once at 2pm and again at 7pm. Here are our three in their SHEMA clothes; all the girls wear white (the "pages") and the boys wear black (the "words"). And this is the poster that had been put up around town. Here's the whole choir, all 104 of them. Photo credit: Gloria Verhoeven. Inside of the program.. The choir directo...

From the Second Two Weeks. It was all I could do to post pictures of our first two weeks of school. This time, I'm feeling up for captions! It is encouraging to me to look back at these school posts later and see that things are being accomplished and learned because often, in the midst of it, it just feels like chaos and I get very, very discouraged that I'm failing my kids. And go through our CC memory work at breakfast. Then the kids work on their Awana Bible verses, tracing maps,. With Micah and Nata...
