Why #PartTimeMatters - ten pence piece
http://www.tenpencepiece.net/blog/2015/07/30/why-parttimematters?share=email
Privacy & Cookies. July 30, 2015. A copy of the 2015 edition of the Open University’s magazine “ OpenMinds – for enquiring alumni. Perhaps unsurprisingly, employers, who should be significant beneficiaries of investment in part-time learning, now appear reluctant to directly fund their employees. Figure 14 on page 26 of this Universities UK report. Shows that the number of employer-funded part-time undergraduate students dropped from just over 40,000 in 2011-12 to around 22,000 in 2012-13. The tuition fe...

Privacy & Cookies. Spondon in 1962: outside of the centre. July 9, 2016. As a follow-up to the 1962 Spondon village centre photographs. I posted here last weekend, these are the remaining images from the same film that were taken elsewhere in the village. The first is the junction of Willowcroft Road with South Avenue. I assume that the next photograph is looking back towards Sitwell Street from this lane, but confirmation would be welcome! The final photograph is of Potter Street. This is facing awa...
Should we begrudge MPs a salary of £74,000? - ten pence piece
http://www.tenpencepiece.net/blog/2015/07/16/should-we-begrudge-mps-a-salary-of-74000?share=email
Privacy & Cookies. Should we begrudge MPs a salary of 74,000? July 16, 2015. No, we shouldn’t. The best MPs deserve this – and more. The worst MPs deserve to be removed from office by their electorate. A move to multi-member constituencies elected by proportional representation is the best way to ensure that we have this power. July 21, 2015 at 10:16 pm. July 22, 2015 at 8:21 am. Unsurprisingly, I’d disagree with much of what you say! 10,000 steps a day - day 2. Don't bother with selections or elect...

Privacy & Cookies. August 8, 2015. If you’ve had experience of quantitative and qualitative research, which do you prefer and is it the same approach that you feel gives you the greatest insight? For my own part, I certainly prefer quantitative research from the point of view of simplicity, but the insight that rich, qualitative data gives is often worth the effort. This article was originally written for the University of Leicester Student Blogs. August 10, 2015 at 9:21 am. 10,000 steps a day - day 2.

Privacy & Cookies. Is it safe to come out from behind the sofa yet? May 8, 2015. Bloody hell. Reading those dreadful and depressing results this morning have given me all the motivation I need to make sure that I am still around in 2020 to vote again. My congratulations to the small band of Lib Dem MPs who have made it through this time, and my heartfelt commiserations to the much larger group who sadly didn’t. Back To School - The OU: November 2011
http://backtotheoldskoolou.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Back To School - The OU. BSc (Hon) Psychology @ The Open University. Wednesday, 9 November 2011. I am not working at the moment although being paid up till 30th November and although I was have my own crisis, I think I am going to have to go back in to the motor industry (kicking and screaming) for the money aspect. I really fancied doing something challenging but think job hunting is too hard right now and that for a while I should stick to what I know. Labels: DD101 - Introducing The Social Sciences.

http://backtotheoldskoolou.blogspot.com/2012/02/progression-on-sd226.html
Back To School - The OU. BSc (Hon) Psychology @ The Open University. Monday, 27 February 2012. Still a little deflated after DSE212 TMA03 result so really need to pick myself up and get going again. Roughly 2 weeks till TMA04 is due but with a decent backbone to work from, I am not feeling too rushed. DSE212 TMA05 is already filling me with dread but really need to sit down in peace and quiet and make notes on the instructions. Labels: DSE212 - Exploring Psychology. http://backtotheoldskoolou.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Back To School - The OU. BSc (Hon) Psychology @ The Open University. Thursday, 27 October 2011. I know that this post has been a really long time coming and in real terms ED209 is about due! However lets start with what I learnt about DD101. DD101 is a nice module, it covers a wide variety of topics which should interest most people who have any interest in the world from the troubles in ireland to the debate on Tesco towns. However there are some short cuts and advice that I may be able to help with.

Back To School - The OU. BSc (Hon) Psychology @ The Open University. Wednesday, 7 March 2012. Dictation software for FWEEEEEE. It’s been an interesting time of late. Elluminate is mildly amusing. Everyone appears to fight to get their voice heard and forget to switch microphones off which cause interference. Was a very good tutorial on how to attack assignments critically although I wish this had happened in DD101 as I am on my 3rd module which seems a little late in the day. In reference to the title: I...

Back To School - The OU: Great literature
http://backtotheoldskoolou.blogspot.com/2012/03/great-literature.html
Back To School - The OU. BSc (Hon) Psychology @ The Open University. Friday, 9 March 2012. George Orwell – Nineteen Eighty-Four – This is a truly fantastic book with a great story. I am aware that there are underlying themes about repression however to just take this book on face value it is wonderful read. I was however expecting a Hollywood style ending and was left a little ‘depressed’ as although it was a fantastic ending, it doesn’t lead to my idea of happiness. I plan to create a step by step guide...

Back To School - The OU. BSc (Hon) Psychology @ The Open University. Sunday, 31 July 2011. It's been a long while since my last update and this is total due to new boyfriend. It's been a month now and we are getting on very very well. Very similar people which works perfectly. Still no final result back from DD101 which is starting to grate a little. I can't write my reflection page until this comes back and it will feel like closing the book on it too. Got new Smartphone after loosing my last one on a r...

I know I've been a little distant from this blog but have now been 'in a relationship' for 3 months (tommorrow actually) and I'm enjoying it. I will get bcak to this properly very shortly with loads of proper updates. Reflections on DD101 is still required along with other updates with regards to my OU path and others. Back To School - The OU. BSc (Hon) Psychology @ The Open University. Saturday, 11 February 2012. DSE212 and SD226 – Progress so far. SD226 is now starting to come together in my mind, I think they are rather cruel with hitting you with the contents of Book 1 to start with as it looks harsh but actually the way in which the other books are written actually give some great examples which really help with getting your head round this stuff. My progress so far:. I know this sounds like I am running away with...

tenpencemore | Education from all directions
Education from all directions. Collective punishment: it doesn’t work but still it happens. December 18, 2016. As part of a group detention, students were asked to write a letter on why it is necessary to follow the teacher’s instruction. My child wrote this. Collective punishment might feel good to you at the time, but it is always wrong. What’s the point? Collective punishment doesn’t make any sense. If you are ever tempted to deploy this as a technique, here is a short film about how ridiculous it is.

Just One More Ten Pence Piece …. Privacy & Cookies. Spondon in colour 1956: Before the Borrowash bypass. August 8, 2015. Many of you enjoyed the black and white photographs of the A52 bypass being built. Through Spondon I posted here a few weeks ago. I’ve also managed to unearth a few colour slides of Spondon in 1956. These were taken before the bypass was built, presumably in late spring / early summer judging by the state of the foliage. Willowcroft Road – with no bridge! August 8, 2015. August 7, 2015.
