Our Nature Study: April 2008

http://texasnaturestudy.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 25, 2008. Outdoor Challenge #10 and #11. Green Hour Challenge #10. Asked us to have an outdoor picnic. My kids thought I'd lost it when I took this picture of them eating today. We eat outdoors several times a week most of the year-although usually not junk food like today! Big Sis' joined us for a hike after lunch. We were able to climb the bike trails which is far more exciting then walking the flat walking paths. Sam calls this off-roading and it is one of his favorite activities. We did...

I did not plan to do Outdoor Challenge #17. I have faith that your sunflowers will grow and bloom.they are pretty hardy things and I think that they grow faster when it is hotter anyway. My sunflowers this week alone have grown a ton so I *know* yours will too. (positive thinking at its best).

Our Nature Study: Outdoor Challenge #13

http://texasnaturestudy.blogspot.com/2008/05/outdoor-challenge-13.html

Friday, May 9, 2008. We wanted to take a closer look at our Stargazer Lily but there were no blooms. Sam found perhaps the saddest looking trumpet lily in a much neglected. Part of our yard- I had quite forgotten that it existed. We laminated the front and back of one card with the parts of the flower from Barb- Harmony Art Mom's Green Hour Challenge #13. The second card has our Stargazer Lily on one side and our Trumpet Lily on the other. I wanted to ID the anther and filament since they so prominent.

Our Nature Study: February 2008

Friday, February 29, 2008. Why do pupils dislike writing English exercises? Simply because they are not interested in the subject they are asked to write about, and they know that the teacher is not interested in the information contained in the essay. But when they are interested in the subject and write about it to a person who is interested, the conditions are entirely changed.". Handbook of Nature Study pg.16. May I always remember to help them find their interest before requiring them to write.

Our Nature Study: March 2008

http://texasnaturestudy.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 28, 2008. We did not have a Green Hour we had a Green Week! We have inspected, dissected, poked, prodded, virtually every wildflower, tree, insect, and bird in our backyard. Big Sis' joined in much of the adventure and has been crowned "Butterfly Catcher Extraordinaire"! In an attempt to try to keep our focus on our trees we have started playing games with our trees. "Race you to the ( name , characteristic, etc)" is a favorite with Sam. I have also started a nature blog. This particular ba...

One day at a time...: Changes part 2.

http://wbbeachbum.blogspot.com/2012/02/changes-part-2.html

Saturday, February 18, 2012. So my son has expressed a desire to do his schoolwork without his sister's interference. He also expressed interest in Teaching Textbooks for math, LLATL for language arts and Spelling Power for spelling. I mentioned all this to Big Daddy and he merely shrugs his shoulder's and says "switch him! Teaching Textbooks has been a fun little addition. He is able to work through this almost completely independently. Spelling Power has been interesting. He does not like mispellin...

Tuesday, July 6, 2010. The beginning of Charlotte's Kindergarten Year. Where oh where has the time gone? She has been enjoying a long and wonderful. We will use Handwriting without Tears and Math-U-See Primer just as we did with Sam. Since I plan on using. With her next year for spelling that is the first option. I hear rumors o...

One day at a time...: Year 4 assessment

http://wbbeachbum.blogspot.com/2012/05/year-4-assessment.html

Saturday, May 26, 2012. We made a lot of changes last year. I suffered a rather severe case of burnout and needed to make some changes. Sam discovered a few resources that appealed to him. I split the kids to better suit their individual needs. All in all it was a good year. I will probably regret missing ECC with Sam as written although we did read some of the resources. On Donna Young to write out the next week's lesson plan. Reviewing SOTW's activity guide to pull out resources and activities. Some ot...

One day at a time...: Changes......

http://wbbeachbum.blogspot.com/2012/02/changes.html

Saturday, February 4, 2012. I spent some time rearranging our book closet. Our book closet is really the size of a small room and holds 18 years of books and curriculum. As I was sorting and moving supplies around, Sam joined me. He had an agenda. Sam, "Do I have to do school with Charlotte? Sam, "You can do math on the computer? Why hasn't anyone ever told me about this? He liked what he saw and copied the placement test. He took the placement test and stated that he wants to do this! I'm still cleaning...
