What is Encaustic?
http://www.theencausticcenter.com/what-is-encaustic.html
580 W Arapaho Rd. #271, Richardson, Texas, 75080. Encaustic painting is an ancient process developed by the Greeks. The word encaustic is Greek and it means to burn or burn in. In its simplest form, encaustic involves melting wax with a resin to create encaustic medium. Pigment is then added to create encaustic paint. The paint or medium is brushed on when it's hot and each layer is fused to the surface with a heat gun, torch, or iron. For registration and questions. Bonny at theencausticcenter.com.

Sunday, October 26, 2008. ENCAUSTIC PAINTING AND PRINTMAKING. Encaustic paint is essentially beeswax, natural tree resin, pigment and of course, heat. People have been painting with it off-and-on for centuries dating back to Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. Here in Houston at the Menil Museum you can see several Fayum Mummy Portraits that date to antiquity. My dictionary sources describe it as:. A paint consisting of pigment mixed with beeswax and fixed with heat after its application. Paula Roland, an ar...
