Cooking, gardening and recipes for the good life. July 21, 2015. July is plum time. As an avid forager and person who hates to see food go to waste, I often pick WAY more plums. Than I can eat. Luckily I have a second fridge that has kept these beauties in tip top shape until I could get to them and my canner has been working overtime as jar after jar of jam, mostarda and chutney has gotten a dip. Chutney to fill your shelves! 1 lb apricots, pitted and chopped. 2 lbs plums, pitted and chopped. Combine al...

Cooking, gardening and recipes for the good life. August 4, 2015. When life gives you zucchini. Every few days, I find gifts of zucchini on our front porch. My neighbor has a prolific garden that is producing more squash than they can handle so she generously shares some with us. For the ones that are especially big and hard, I bake them into a chocolate cake. The recipe makes 2 1/2 dozen cupcakes or 2-8″ cakes for layering and the flavor is deep, dark, choclatey and delicious! 1 1/2 cups sugar. For icin...

Cooking, gardening and recipes for the good life. September 18, 2015. It’s fig time here in northern California and by all accounts, this is a banner year for them. The tree in my backyard is producing lots and I have them spread around the kitchen waiting to be grilled, put in salads, blended into smoothies, stuffed with cheese and popped in my mouth. Before too long, the mixture reached a perfect gel and was ready for jars. In San Rafael, California. Molto delicioso! 2 1/2 cups sugar. Place all ingredi...

Book Review: All Fall Down by Ally Carter. January 18, 2015. Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about my personal style so I thought I’d write a little blog post about it! I enjoy reading magazines and people-watching to see what kinds of things people wear and how they style their outfits; I think it’s so cool how a person can express their personality and interests through the clothes that they wear and how they wear them! Another thing that I’m really envious of is when a person has a coherent. Book Re...
