DAY 5 | My Trip To Africa
https://rmicallef.com/2011/01/24/day-5
My Trip To Africa. January 24, 2011. January 27, 2011. Had our dance class again and learned 2 more moves following the ones learned in the previous class. It was grueling since we had to repeat them all in a row with the drums speeding up in tempo, 7 total I think. Immediately following this we got into our drum class with Ali Son, where we finally learned how our beat works with the dun dun. Hadja, Noah, Rachel and one of Sidy's nephews on the roof. Marianne and her friends all showed up to celebrate w...

DAY 6 | My Trip To Africa
https://rmicallef.com/2011/01/24/day-6
My Trip To Africa. January 24, 2011. January 24, 2011. Began the day with our usual breakfast immediately followed by a drum practice session sans Ali Son, who was praying at his mosque, and Rachel, who had gone to take video at Sidy’s recording session for the day. We solidified 3 parts of our song, along with where they fell on the dun dun part. With muscles like these, our house maid is lucky to be alive. Apparently drawing muscles on yourself can give you super human strength. The cops all laughed at...

Blogging Through the Bible in 90 Days: February 2006
http://nuntimebible.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Blogging Through the Bible in 90 Days. Saturday, February 25, 2006. Blogged here yesterday but it's gone AWOL. I've been on holiday. Forgot my reading plan, so simply picked up the Bible each day for two 30 mins sessions. Guess what I'm slightly ahead of target. (grin). I loved the psalms, and want to go back and take them and Proverbs more slowly. And Isaiah is WONDERFUL - food for my soul. Be blessed all of you :). Posted by see-through faith. DAY 7 | My Trip To Africa
https://rmicallef.com/2011/01/25/day-7
My Trip To Africa. January 25, 2011. January 27, 2011. Had just our drum class today and then Ali took us all via taxi to the nuveau marche (the new market), which was a sprawling, intense maze of makeshift shelters selling everything from furniture to fresh fruit to ski hats to dead animal carcasses. This is where I learned to haggle with the sellers. I think we might have some photos of this too so stay tuned because it really was quite the site. This is the CFA version of a $1, roughly. My Trip To Africa. January 19, 2011. January 21, 2011. Began the day with a breakfast of scrambled eggs and veggies on french bread with tea and coffee. Ate on the roof. Roof top view of Bamako in the morning. Roof top view of Bamako on the other side. Then went to my drum teacher Sidy’s band’s practice session in what might’ve been a masque. Huge tan building with beautiful courtyard. First night in Bamako we went to a club called the Diplomat and saw a band called Toumani Diabatés! Had a couple rounds ...

About | My Trip To Africa
https://rmicallef.com/about
My Trip To Africa. In January of 2011 I went to Bamako, Mali in West Africa. It was a drumming/percussion/cultural expedition that I will never forget. However, in case I become senile, I wrote it all down. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:. Address never made public). THE FINAL DAY | My Trip To Africa
https://rmicallef.com/2011/02/03/the-final-day
My Trip To Africa. February 3, 2011. February 3, 2011. On my last day in Africa we got on one of the infamous green city buses in the morning and drove an hour out over bumpy roads to 3 villages, the last being Koulikoro. We experienced what life is like in the country, from casting fishing nets into the croc-infested Niger River to sifting through the soil for sand, which will be used in concrete to construct buildings in and around Bamako. Kids cooling off in the Niger. Rachel and Grace playing for the...

DAY 2 | My Trip To Africa
https://rmicallef.com/2011/01/20/day-2
My Trip To Africa. January 20, 2011. January 27, 2011. Had our first drum lesson in the morn, round 11. Went well except I was told to stop playing with my pinkies up. After, we hung out all day at the house eating amazing food and having a special kind of Malian tea, which is very strong and concentrated. It’s brewed by continuously pouring it in the shot glasses they’re served in. Sidy's sister Hadja. DAY 3 →. 2 thoughts on “ DAY 2. January 25, 2011 at 2:42 pm. January 25, 2011 at 3:30 pm.
