Dedidated to the People of Burke, Then and Now. Thanks for visiting my Burke web site. I am the author of this site, Lee Murrah. My great-grandparents, Samuel B. and Henrietta Wilson Murrah, moved to Diboll from Walker County in the early 20th Century, probably to work in the sawmills. Their son Virgil married Hester Forsythe, daughter of Will and Sarah Landrum Forsythe. 2006-16 Burke History Project. M Lee Murrah, Editor.

They spread themselves around by attaching themselves to an animal's tail or mane. It was not unusual for for a horse's mane to be so tangled with cockeburrs that was necessary to cut them out with shears.
