Asian Invasion: October 2008
http://teachinginchina08.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 28, 2008. Hong Kong is a special place. I was only there for a weekend and I spent the vast majority of that time playing frisbee, but the little I did see shocked and intrigued me. HK seemed like a city of contradictions and odd juxtapositions. Everywhere I looked there was opulence (BMWs, mansions, Louis Vuitton (sp? Here are a couple pictures from the weekend:. Sherry, Nutt, Sam, me, Robin, Sara, Jono). Joann, Robin, and our cabbie on the way back from the fields. 4) I'm really excite...

Sunday, September 28, 2008. The past 3 days have been filled by a grand "sports meeting". More details will follow shortly, but now I am off to celebrate the week-long holiday in Huangshan. I will fill you in on the details shortly. Wednesday, September 24, 2008. And run off screaming and chasing their ball/other children around the halls. It never fails to get a smile out of me. PS Here are a couple completely unrelated pictures of some of my favorite people - the Smartwhores. Tuesday, September 23, 2008.

Sunday, November 30, 2008. 8220;This place is like Dr. Seuss’s worst nightmare.". Friday, November 28, 2008. Thanksgiving in a Strange Land. Monday, November 24, 2008. My student's dad is part owner of the restaurant.not Italian though. The evening was a big deal to me because Mario's pizza is pretty famous: it’s written up in LonelyPlanet and a few friends had mentioned a while back that they wanted to check it out….even before knowing that my student was involved in any way. We had a caprese salad (wit...

Asian Invasion: December 2008

Tuesday, December 30, 2008. The other day, I was watching Superbad. For about the third time…mostly to kill time…and I couldn’t help but notice the amazingly ridiculous subtitles. I wrote some down for your viewing pleasure:. Should I just get a shitload of different shit? Prepare the man’s thing. Jules and her stupid fucking friend came up to me and they asked me to buy her alcohol. The Kai silk still has her with me. The friend goes out in the evening…know the sexy pole of her friend. 2) I recently pur...

Friday, January 30, 2009. Explosions During the Joyous New Year. It’s Chinese New Year! For an entire week, people (including the security guards 50 feet away) take great pleasure in shooting off firecrackers and fireworks ALL OVER the frickin’ city between the hours of 7pm and 1am. It’s midnight, so I’m in this mess for at least another hour…unless they all get bored or tired or deaf…all unlikely since they are clearly professionals at these shenanigans. Holy moly! Thursday, January 29, 2009. This is ho...

Asian Invasion: August 2008

Friday, August 29, 2008. My shoes have taken a beating over the past month climbing around on ruins, exploring dirty city streets, hiking, etc. I've accumulated dirt from three different countries and worn a couple of holes through the shoes. Basically, I need new shoes. I entered store after store and the following dialogue would commence:. Ni you xiezi hen da? Do you have large shoes? You sishiliu ( Do you have size 46? Note: 46 is the English size that is the same as US 11. Meiyou. ( 46! Back in the S...

Monday, July 28, 2008. A mishmosh of adventures. Now we're back in Bangkok. We arrived yesterday after another long night bus ride, but this time instead of repetitious Thai pop music on a public bus, we got 4 awesome movies (one including Superbad.sweet! On a V.I.P. pimped-out bus, which was at least a little more comfortable and enjoyable. We made sure to fit in a bit of pick-up frisbee yesterday afternoon.clearly. We're off to enjoy a nice evening of air-con. :). Thursday, July 17, 2008. I'm just mess...
