Thrifty, Not Cheap. A compendium of ways to live in a more fiscally efficient manner. Friday, October 31, 2008. Halloween Ghosts From Garbage Bags. Saw this in a neighbor's yard and thought it was clever. Take several white kitchen trash bags, fill 1/4 way with crumpled newspaper or some paper grocery bags. Tie off with a ribbon, thus making a "head.". Draw a face on with a permanent marker. Run a string through the top of the ghost's head and tie to whatever you like! Keep an eye out for stock after big...

There's a big difference between "saving" and "cost avoiding." It's pretty thrifty to keep this in mind if you're out shopping. After grocery shopping, often times on the receipt it'll say ". Xx amount of money today. Know the difference. Saving is powerful. Cost avoiding is just shuffling funds. Aaah Those Deals on Grocery Endcap Displays. Anyway, thought...

Thrifty, Not Cheap: No More Leaky Liquid Laundry Detergent
http://bethriftynotcheap.blogspot.com/2010/04/no-more-leaky-liquid-laundry-detergent.html
Thrifty, Not Cheap. A compendium of ways to live in a more fiscally efficient manner. Sunday, April 18, 2010. No More Leaky Liquid Laundry Detergent. Ever notice that after you've poured your liquid laundry detergent and recapped the bottle, sometimes the detergent leaks out from what's leftover in the cap? It's scary - this stuff, undiluted by the wash water, can literally peel paint off of shelves if it sits around. Labels: Around the House. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). More, from Me.

Thrifty, Not Cheap. A compendium of ways to live in a more fiscally efficient manner. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Square Foot Gardening, part 2. So, the jury's still out on this Square Foot Gardening thing. or really, just this "gardening" thing. Since I last posted about SFG, we built a little 4x4 SFG according to the book. Partially on the timing of the season (a little late to plant, missed spinach season, etc) and also in part an experiment to see what would do best in our little homestead project. I gues...

Thrifty, Not Cheap. A compendium of ways to live in a more fiscally efficient manner. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Broke Ass Gourmet - Hearty Quinoa Salad = Yum! I recently discovered "Broke Ass Gourmet" and have road tested a few of the recipes. So far, I'm impressed! They're inexpensive, simple and very tasty. They also require very little time. I tried the Hearty Quinoa Salad. Such a fun mix to flavors! I don't eat pork, and it's nearly impossible to find a sausage that doesn't use pork casing, so I substit...

Disasters in Homemaking: July 2010
http://disastersinhomemaking.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 26, 2010. Holy cow. Now I've heard of everything. Perhaps this is better served in my blog on thrifty living. Since it capitalizes on using the dishwasher while you're washing dishes, but it also looks like a definite dinner disaster in the making. Apparently it's possible to cook fish, and now lasagna, or anything else that can be cooked via a steam packet of tin foil, in your dishwasher. Am I bold enough to put this on a future menu? I might just have to try it out. P 170 The Detox Cookbook.

Saturday, April 24, 2010. Healthy Tacos for Taco Tuesday! These healthy tacos look so yummy. We do a couple of "taco Tuesdays" a month over at our house - often on a Monday or Wednesday, rarely on a Tuesday. Ordinarily, we do it with ground turkey breast, but this variation looks delicious. Butternut squash is heading out of season, but I'll keep this in mind for this fall! I tried this recipe (finally! Here's my post on that sweet taco action. Soft Tacos with Sauteed Winter Squash and Chipotles.

Disasters in Homemaking: May 2010
http://disastersinhomemaking.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 7, 2010. The Butternut Squash Tacos. My Way. I finally got around to making that luscious looking taco recipe. It came out pretty swell, and was super easy. I wonder why I wasted 2 weeks putting it off? Next time, I think I'd cube the squash more, probably caramelize some onions first, throw in some currents and black beans and call it a party! An End to Those Pesky Dinnertime Dilemmas. I've been looking for a tool such as this:. What the Fuck Should I Make for Dinner? We pull out all the sto...
