Considering God’s Plan | The Public Professor

http://www.thepublicprofessor.com/considering-gods-plan

History, Politics, Culture, Society, Economics, and the Arts. Books I Done Written. Books I Might Write (Including the Community Book that Led to this Website’s Creation). Considering God’s Plan. April 6, 2015. It’s all part of God’s plan. That’s bad enough. But I go a little nuts whenever someone says: Everything happens for a reason. Everything happens for a. In other words, the worst of it can be justified, even if we don’t know how. Both proverbs, to my mind, are patently dishonest sentiments. Bu...

In Memoriam: David Letterman | The Public Professor

History, Politics, Culture, Society, Economics, and the Arts. Books I Done Written. Books I Might Write (Including the Community Book that Led to this Website’s Creation). In Memoriam: David Letterman. May 21, 2015. Plus, you know, the joys of binge watching a series. It’s like going face down into a bowl of chocolate pudding and nearly suffocating in the most wonderful way imaginable. But last night I fired up the flatscreen and fiddled with the rabbit ears to catch David Letterman. Could it be that lon...

My Baltimore Riots | The Public Professor

http://www.thepublicprofessor.com/my-baltimore-riots

History, Politics, Culture, Society, Economics, and the Arts. Books I Done Written. Books I Might Write (Including the Community Book that Led to this Website’s Creation). April 29, 2015. On Monday afternoon, several days of protest in Baltimore over the police killing of Freddie Gray transformed into a riot that lasted through the night. As of Tuesday, there was no longer a riot to speak of. Rather, it had become a military occupation of West Baltimore. You read that correctly. Less than two miles from ...

In Memoriam: Spock | The Public Professor

History, Politics, Culture, Society, Economics, and the Arts. Books I Done Written. Books I Might Write (Including the Community Book that Led to this Website’s Creation). February 27, 2015. There are many obituaries of Leonard Nimoy. Being written and published in light of his passing today at the age of 83. I watched a whole lotta. Probably about 200 nights per year for several years I watched an episode of. There were only 88 total episodes, so you can do the math. After half-a-day traipsing through t...

Burning My Confederate Flag | The Public Professor

http://www.thepublicprofessor.com/burning-my-confederate-flag

History, Politics, Culture, Society, Economics, and the Arts. Books I Done Written. Books I Might Write (Including the Community Book that Led to this Website’s Creation). Burning My Confederate Flag. June 29, 2015. To be born in America in 1967 is, to some degree, to fall through the cracks. S Plumbers were bumbling the Watergate break-in; and learning to read when the final U.S. helicopters evacuated Saigon. Sure, we understood our own moment well enough. Late Cold War and early computers. AIDS...And i...

Matt Bokovoy: February 2010

http://mattbokovoy.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Books, Criticism, Friends, and Things Underground. Sunday, February 7, 2010. Fall into Winter Snow. Bradley Hayes with Spencer. Tabby and Spencer went to Buffalo in October to visit family, and this riding session was at Uncle Frankie and Aunt Mo's house. At the pumpkin patch, with Tara. In the backyard in the snow. Nala, our dog, gave the snow a whirl despite having arthritis, but we had to carry back in after about 5 minutes. Old dogs are very stubborn, especially ours. Tara decorating Christmas cookies.

Matt Bokovoy: June 2012

http://mattbokovoy.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Books, Criticism, Friends, and Things Underground. Monday, June 18, 2012. It's been awhile since I posted anything, and these are the spring travel highlights. This is Spencer and me at the carnival at the Norman Music Festival. It was pretty fun, and he had not been to a carnival, so we played a lot of the games and he went on a couple kid rides. This was the giant alligator ride. This is uncle Ron with Spencer. Ron was shelling out the cash for games of chance, of which we won once. Links to this post.

Matt Bokovoy: October 2010

http://mattbokovoy.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Books, Criticism, Friends, and Things Underground. Thursday, October 28, 2010. I haven't posted in awhile, since my desktop is busted and can't download our summer photos on my laptop. So here are some "end hits" from the past year. Spencer has gotten "super bigger" as he says and the proof is here. Street sesh at Bradley's. Slide into the snow from our multiple blizzards last winter. Spencer and his buddy, Abe. Grooving in the Flint Hills, after the Norman Music Festival. Flint Hills land sea. Pueblo Po...

Books, Criticism, Friends, and Things Underground. Saturday, May 25, 2013. Red Cities @ Fuse Recordings and Lincoln Exposed. In February, Red Cities, my new band recorded a 4-song, 7" single at Fuse Recordings with Charlie Johnson and Tim Kechley. We had just come off playing Lincoln Exposed at the Rye Room at the Bourbon Theater, and a little press write-up on our set. Photos by Josh Leeker, and Kent Wolgamott. Books, Criticism, Friends, and Things Underground. Tuesday, July 31, 2012. July, Or Infernal Days on the Southern Plains. Zombie vs. Shark at the Free Tulsa Music Festival 2012, at the Dust Bowl Lanes/Dilly Deli Stage. It was cool being back in Tulsa, since I hadn't been there in 3 years. Used to go there often when I lived in Stillwater. It was only 108 degrees when we played at 7pm. Kudos to Joey Powell, of Shitty/Awesome, for snapping the pics for us! There were little colored houses all around. The S...

Books, Criticism, Friends, and Things Underground. Sunday, January 24, 2010. Below are some highlights from the summer and beginning of Fall. Hopefully these will bring the an early spring just by putting them up. Dave and Erin at their wedding in upstate New York the past summer. Ellie and Michael Martin. Don Weston and Renata. Devon, Renata, and Eva. Before we went to the wedding, all of us were at grandma's house in Annapolis, and this is Spencer learning to swim in his "floaty" vest. University of Ne...

Matt Bokovoy: September 2010

http://mattbokovoy.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Books, Criticism, Friends, and Things Underground. Thursday, September 9, 2010. The Guitar Cabinet Theory of Life. People are screwed up when they view the world through the lens of their passions and obsessions. A year of car payments is an arena setup of guitar cabinets, 12 to be exact. Why have a new car when you don't drive, and ride your bike everywhere? Yet is doesn't cost much to play your guitar or skate an irrigation ditch either. Links to this post. Unpublishable thoughts: September 2014

http://jonathanhopkin.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Unpublishable thoughts. A blog about politics, economics and other trivia. Tuesday, September 23, 2014. The West Yorkshire Question. Despite my years of frothing outrage at the cynicism and cruelty of the UK Conservative Party, even I was genuinely shocked at David Cameron's reaction to the Scottish referendum result. It's not fair. Of course, the reason we are in this situation to begin with is that for years - specifically between 1979-1997, and on ' reserved matters. By sharing power around. They woul...
