Zen on a Boat. Cruising on FNR A Blog for All People. Beaufort to Myrtle Beach to Homeless. April 30, 2016. We spend 3 nights in Beaufort, SC. This was a planned stop. A fellow blogger was staying there and I wanted to meet him, his wife, and Honey, their dog. I’ve been following Mike’s blog Bimini Dream. In one of his blogs, Mike mentioned (as a good husband should) Pam’s blog about Honey, Something Wagging This Way Comes. Honey became my virtual dog and I enjoyed reading about her adventures. Once we g...

This Rat Sailed: Fiberglassing in the Dark
http://thisratsailed.blogspot.com/2015/08/fiberglassing-in-dark.html
Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Fiberglassing in the Dark. It is kind of funny. It seems most projects that my wife and I start, at some point along the way, result in performing work late at night in the dark. Be it planting trees in our old backyard, re-tiling our old bathroom, or a myriad of other projects, we end up misjudging the amount of time needed. And now we can add fiberglass layup to the list. Two more layers of resin and cl...

This Rat Sailed: Keeping Bugs at Bay

Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Monday, September 1, 2014. Keeping Bugs at Bay. I seem to be apologizing a lot lately for the lack of posts. When I haven't been sick, I've been busy, but it hasn't been much that is sailing related. We've been working hard on our downsizing, but it is amazing how much stuff you can collect being in one home for almost 18 years. I should have more updates in the coming weeks, so please stand by. Meanwhile, I was reading a blog post.

This Rat Sailed: Thankful for a few Freedom Chips and the Wisdom to Use Them Well

Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Thursday, November 28, 2013. Thankful for a few Freedom Chips and the Wisdom to Use Them Well. Actually, I hadn't planned on writing this at all. My intention was to try to catch up on some of the reading I've wanted to do but am terribly behind on. I was reading the Cost Conscious Cruiser. One of the books that was so generously gifted to me. November 28, 2013 at 5:18 PM. November 28, 2013 at 8:20 PM. December 2, 2013 at 4:34 PM.

Things we did today...: May 2015
http://www.thingswedidtoday.net/2015_05_01_archive.html
Things we did today. Remember that summer we lived in Puerto Rico. Saturday, May 30, 2015. The Waiting Is The Hardest Part. We had a little over two weeks to kill until our daughter was due to arrive. We didn’t want to risk leaving the area and getting caught by weather, unable to get back to Marsh Harbour to meet her. But that doesn’t mean there was nothing we could do. We were loving Marsh Harbour! Jib Repair on the deck. We took the sail down and wrangled it into position and just sewed the patches on.

Flawless Refrigeration Installations | Zen on a Boat
https://zenonaboat.com/2015/09/06/flawless-refrigeration-installations
Zen on a Boat. Cruising on FNR A Blog for All People. September 6, 2015. So how’d the refrigeration install go? I’m so glad you asked and I am thrilled to report that Installation #1 went surprisingly well. It took us all day and there was a lot of getting in and out of tight spaces, but the only snafu we ran into was having to drill mounting holes in the bottom of the evaporator bin so that, once mounted, the lid opened down instead of up. We can fix this. M: Hmmmm, the Keurig must be leaking. S: I wond...

Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Taking the ASA 101 and ASA 103 Written Exams. Since we finally decided on a school that is affiliated with the American Sailing Association. For our next course, we just completed the ASA 101 (Basic Keelboat). And ASA 103 (Basic Coastal Cruising). And we were a little nervous. We did get our grades and I posted them in this entry. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). That's the plan anyway. Things we did today. Remember that summer we lived in Puerto Rico. Saturday, December 27, 2014. Land Of Mountains - A Book Review. I finished the book! I started reading Land of Mountains. In short spurts, hoping to prolong the process because Jinx Schwartz’s. Writing is just that good… This was a foray into the unknown. Would I like the book? I loved the Hetta Coffee series. By the same author… would this totally unrelated story be as interesting? Friday, December 12, 2014. Our absence from the many imp...

Sea Drifter: August 2011
http://sea-drifter.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Preparing to see the world as can only be done by sailboat. Monday, August 1, 2011. I finally found a boat :-), She's in fairly good shape needs some bottom paint and touch up on wood work. The test sail was pleasant and fun while there are no fancy things on board like roller furling and such the sail were easier to operate than the sail boat I had learned to sail on . cant wait to get her painted and in the water again.
