Tour of Orkney: August 2016
http://orkneytouraandt.blogspot.com/2016_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, 28 August 2016. Finally a visit to Orkney! Triana, a friend who lives in the US, has been wanting to visit Orkney for a long time, as have I. So when she came to Scotland for a wedding, we planned a trip. After researching coaches, ferries, trains, etc we found the best way to go was the short flight from Glasgow to Kirkwall, Orkney. We booked this hotel which we were very pleased with:. Since I can only drive automatic cars, Triana drove the hire car. And off we go. More photos of the trip.

At The Ferry we are enthusiastic supporters of live music. The Orkney Folk Festival at the end of May, and Blues Festival in September are obvious highlights, but throughout the year we provide a venue for young (and not so young) bands to strut their stuff and support traditional music sessions which set the pub off to its best. Visiting players are welcomed and there will always be a guitar, fiddle or mandolin (and even a bhodran on request! W: www.ferryinn.com. Http:/ www.theshore.co.uk/.

The Ferry Inn has always had a good reputation for local ales. Recognised in the Good Beer Guide and winner of the CAMRA Northern Isles pub of the year in 2009 and 2010, the pub has recently installed racking for up to 10 local cask ales, with 5 handpulls on the bar as well as bottled local beers from the fridge or shelf. During local festivals The Ferry operates a popular outdoor bar' where barbecued fresh local seafood can be chased down with local ale under the (occasional) summer sun!
