The Gold Link: Divide and Conquer
http://thesourceloop3.blogspot.com/2007/02/divide-and-conquer.html
A visual story of landscape, extraction, and indigenous collaboration at the source of one of our most popular commodities. Saturday, February 3, 2007. This he-said-she-said ping-pong match of local accusations versus company policies never ceases. It's easy to understand how years of such ambiguousness and contradiction can lead a person to become mistrustful of everyone. Anna Huanchequay, president of the local Diaguita people, seems to be taking the brunt of that confusion. The Source Loop Home.

Byways: January 2009
http://cottagebyways.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Travel, architecture, community, and overall roadside bravery. Wednesday, January 7, 2009. That was simply a scouting visit, so I took my info and some photos and moved on down the road to the Osa Peninsula where hiking, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, canopy tours, and everything else fun and adventurous live relatively unscathed by the furious tourist engine of northwestern Costa Rica. Luckily, a man can dream. And somehow I think care-taking this inn might not have left Jack such a dull boy.

Byways: Oysterville
http://cottagebyways.blogspot.com/2009/04/oysterville.html
Travel, architecture, community, and overall roadside bravery. Sunday, April 5, 2009. Oysterville, WA and Apalachicola, FL are like long-lost cousins. Apalach has an actual town core and Main Street, while Oysterville is much smaller, really just an historic village of second homes passed down through generations of the same family. But the oysters and the sense of old and salty and crusty connect these two distant towns. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Http:/ thesourceloop.blogspot.com.

Travel, architecture, community, and overall roadside bravery. Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Hamer Village, Omo Valley, Ethiopia. Interior, South Dakota. So There I Was…. I’ll take the extra time everyday. So when the mandate came down at work to “spend your money like it’s yours” I took them literally. This national park trip would break single-season lows for expense reports. At some point in these random travel encounters I get around to telling the folks that I’m a travel writer. This can have the...I wande...

He (Sergio) doesn't have an ounce of Diaguita blood in him," Ron said. "And neither does his wife. Sergio represents the Huascoaltino farming cooperative. He's looking after his own personal financial interests. You need to understand the politics and speak to the people involved.". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Source Loop Home.

A visual story of landscape, extraction, and indigenous collaboration at the source of one of our most popular commodities. Wednesday, March 7, 2007. Aside from minute medical and industrial purposes, no one needs gold; it's an accessory. 85% of the virgin gold produced today goes to gold jewelry, and a large chunk of that to supply the dowry of Indian women. But if there's a market, there's a way, and Barrick Gold has found the way. The original plan necessitated scraping into parts of those glaciers an...

Villar, now with a new team of lawyers from Santiago, is battling Barrick in appeals courts after winning his initial lawsuit returning land title to his name.
