Lucien Freud | this gallery is an art graveyard
https://thisgalleryisanartgraveyard.wordpress.com/2011/07/25/lucien-freud
This gallery is an art graveyard. The frozen moments dissected. Asymp; Leave a comment. I was saddened the other day to read that Lucien Freud had died. He was one of my favourite artists and one of those people who you knew you had on your side when you were trying to make an argument for the continuing validity of figurative art. I bought a huge coffee table book of Freud and it was something that kickstarted a lot of thoughts in my imagination – you should be able to look at any painting and rea...
HR Giger | this gallery is an art graveyard
https://thisgalleryisanartgraveyard.wordpress.com/2013/10/31/hr-giger
This gallery is an art graveyard. The frozen moments dissected. Asymp; Leave a comment. People have a very visceral reaction to Giger, he taps into something very primal with his art, and that is where people react from and to it. I think the word Freudian is a term that I have seen connected to him in more than one place. I saw Alien and I found his art as two separate experiences that dovetailed when I was looking through one of the books I purchased. Would I want to live in one of Giger’s worlds?
Egon Schiele | this gallery is an art graveyard
https://thisgalleryisanartgraveyard.wordpress.com/2013/10/30/egon-schiele
This gallery is an art graveyard. The frozen moments dissected. Asymp; Leave a comment. I heard the angularity of Schiele’s art dancing through Joy Division’s music, read it in Bellow’s. And maybe even in the harrowing performance of Bale’s. Are some of the things about him shading into a darkness that would make most people understandably uncomfortable? No he’s not easy, sure he’s slightly dodgy, but is his art fucking amazing and does it make you feel? And does it reward the time you invest in it?
Molly Crabapple | this gallery is an art graveyard

This gallery is an art graveyard. The frozen moments dissected. Asymp; Leave a comment. I really love what Molly Crabapple does – her latest effort draws attention to Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Before that she went to Gitmo. She is doing something important, and using her art to cut through the bullshit and engage with her audience. I think her art has the power to attract people to the conversation who might otherwise avoid it. Larr; Previous post. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Newer posts →. So, I read a shit ton of graphic novels today; I am about to read a Warren Ellis e-book short story, and I slept most of the day away. Fun, right? Not much to say here, except hello, and if any of you feel like recommending a book on how to set up a charitable organisation that would be great. The work I do during the day means that I will always have the resources to be able to do this kind of thing as and when I want, but if it paid for itself that would be fantastic. If I can work o...

Fleeting Time And Alarm Clocks. Getting There →. So, all the alarm clocks went off at the right time this morning, so, even though I didn’t get up as early as I have been wanting to get up, I am getting some writing time in this morning. Having smooth lines on which one operates is not just a godsend, it facilitates the creation of so much more work. I am getting a lot of organising done, and as a result, when I finally get the thing in of getting up earlier to write this is all going to pay off. You are...

Up And Ready →. Fleeting Time And Alarm Clocks. Time, as has been remarked elsewhere, by more eloquent people than I, is a fleeting thing. And alarm clocks are a bugger when they don’t get you up on time and you lose your time for writing. I am going to have to get up at 7 and stop relying on the timer to wake me up at 730 methinks. That wasn’t really part of the plan anyway. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:. Up And Ready →. Fleet...

Moving House In A Metaphorical Way. Fleeting Time And Alarm Clocks →. I don’t think I am a grown up. I don’t know if I ever wanted to be. Most of the best people I know never set up camp in that stagnant pond way of being. I have not kept in my writing schedule in the last week, and I want to kick myself very hard for it. Serendipity, Balance, Whatever | regular movement

Serendipity, Balance, Whatever. Sometimes the experience of writing can be very serendipitous – you set something up with very little thought of how it might be used in the future, and then when you need to do something later in the story, it actually works that you have created the perfect logical reason for that outcome. I seem to be drawing a lot of interest as an editor and a proofreader at the moment also, which is fantastic, because it allows me to help other artists to achieve their goals. Create ...
Getting There | regular movement
https://regularmovement.wordpress.com/2015/08/26/getting-there
Serendipity, Balance, Whatever →. I was hoping to be able to say today that I managed to rise a little earlier, and that was the intention, but the actual thing that happened was that the alarm for the second awakening failed to happen, and so I ended up rising not much earlier than I did the other day, which is a little frustrating given that I went to sleep earlier. If not today then pretty soon. Some new poetry ideas and a new sci-fi collection. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
