THE MARKET HALL IN XÀBIA. The Market Hall’s south door. Next to the Saint Bartholomew Church in Xàbia we can find the market hall, known as Mercado de Abastos, a single-nave building, in which the tuff stone, the local stone, is very representative. The market, with its big four round arches outside and the big point arch inside, reminds us to the Middle Ages, to a Gothic building. Surprisingly the market was built in the 40’s, so it is not older than a Century. The Augustinian Convent before the war.

Muhammad Abu Abd Alah ibn Hudhayl as-Saghir, also known as Al-Azraq (the Blue, because he has got blue eyes) was a Muslim leader of the 13th century. His father was a Wali (such a provincial governor) and his mother, a Christian. He was born in 1208 in La Vall d’Alcalà, 45 kilometres near Dénia. 1240, the Muslim territories are in green, the kingdom of James I are in purple.
