在清治乾隆年間，僅建有上埤頭庄、下埤頭庄、周厝崙庄、新庄仔等村落。至日治時期發展為圓山町、宮前町、三橋町、大正町、御成町、大宮町、上埤頭、下埤頭、朱厝崙、西新庄子、中庄子、大直等。日治末期又合併為大正區、御成區、中園區、宮前區、大宮區、下埤頭區等六個區會。 中山北路一段火車站附近之「梅屋敷」為日治時代最高級之旅舍。孫中山來台，在此落腳休憩，「梅屋敷」戰後改名為「國父史蹟紀念館」館內陳列開放供人參觀。為紀念孫中山先生締造民國之偉業，將上列六個區會合併，並命名為「中山區」。 訂閱： 文章 (Atom).
