3 Minutes, 49 Seconds: "I Bring to You My Songs"
http://3min49sec.blogspot.com/2015/05/i-bring-to-you-my-songs.html
3 Minutes, 49 Seconds. To be read at maximum volume. Thursday, May 21, 2015. I Bring to You My Songs". This past Saturday I went to what felt like one of the biggest concerts of my life: I saw Billy Joel at the Target Center in Minneapolis. I've seen plenty of megawatt acts in my time, but this one felt different going in. Billy's music has been part of my personal soundtrack since I was six years old. My mom played the tapes of An Innocent Man. Until I knew those songs by heart. I got the Storm Front.

3 Minutes, 49 Seconds: April 2015

3 Minutes, 49 Seconds. To be read at maximum volume. Thursday, April 30, 2015. A few years ago I wrote about the fact that I no longer had a voracious appetite for new music. It was difficult to admit, seeing as how I'd previously been so determined to avoid becoming the cliche guy-who-gets-older-and-stops-keeping-up-with-what's-popular. (This is, of course, only a step up from the guy-gets-older-and-believes-all-music-made-after-he-left-high-school-is-shit.). Today I came across a report about a study.

3 Minutes, 49 Seconds. To be read at maximum volume. Tuesday, July 29, 2014. 279 "Weird Al" Yankovic: Mandatory Fun (2014). Back in 2010 I did a review of every single "Weird Al" album, and though I've all but sworn off doing reviews of new albums, I can't let the collection go incomplete. I've also done every-album-reviewed projects for The Beatles, The Monkees, Talking Heads, and XTC, so if any of them put out a new studio album I'll review it - though I think I'm pretty safe.). Becomes an ode to Foil.

3 Minutes, 49 Seconds. To be read at maximum volume. Tuesday, February 03, 2015. I'm Gonna Take Back Some of the Things I Said About You. Every once in awhile I find myself, when a certain heady mixture of nostalgia and narcissism takes hold, re-reading my old reviews. But there's one particular review that's been sticking in my craw for the past six months or so. And it's not so much about the album itself or what I wrote about it as much as it is what my changed opinion represents. Not long before post...

3 Minutes, 49 Seconds: Stuck, or Obsession Cessastion
http://3min49sec.blogspot.com/2010/08/stuck-or-obsession-cessastion.html
3 Minutes, 49 Seconds. To be read at maximum volume. Sunday, August 29, 2010. Stuck, or Obsession Cessastion. You may have noticed that things have slowed down around here. I had the summer off from teaching, and I spent it with my 7 month-old son. I gave myself permission to make this blog less of a priority. Well, "less of a priority" is putting it lightly. Initially, I considered an abrupt retirement. But then I reconsidered. Maybe the proximity to Brett Favre is causing this. In music - I imagine I a...

Top 200 Songs of the '90s. This list was chosen by humans and is therefore imperfect. We hope you enjoy it anyway. Thursday, April 17, 2008. 10 Green Day – Basket Case. In olden times I actually discovered new music via MTV. When I saw the video for Basket Case. One night I knew that I had to get the album right away. The song gave a voice to my teenage alienation while at the same time deflating it ("Do you have the time / to listen to me whine / About nothing and everything all at once?
