Running in the World: October 2011
http://running-in-the-world.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Running in the World. Saturday, October 22, 2011. A Nice Change of Pace. His spring I spent far too much time watching the pace numbers on my Garmin310XT. And berating myself for not running as fast as I thought I should be. I then removed all screens showing pace information from my watch. Then all summer I focused on long slow trail distance for Mt. Hood 50. Turning the corner to the finish line at Bend Marathon 10/1/11. Photo credit: Kathy Lein. One month later, on October 1st I ran the Bend Marathon.

Running in the World: May 2012
http://running-in-the-world.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Running in the World. Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Adventure vs. racing. That’s the choice I was faced with in February. Last year I ran 12 races of marathon length or longer and it was simply too much. I had run 8 up through July, and then when my planned Wonderland Trail. Not Hagg Lake, but a great memory! In February, I ran Hagg Lake 50k. In the National Wild and Scenic Rogue River Canyon. My second May adventure is taking part in the Western States Endurance Run. 8217;s training runs. Running with Melanie...

Running in the World. Monday, February 28, 2011. My First 50-Mile Race (An Adventure Story). Originally posted as facebook note on October 20, 2010. Trail along the American River. 8212; and I felt like a basket case. Scott, manager at Fleet Feet Bend. In the past I have had running dreams where I felt good at 16 or 18 miles. This time I dreamed that I was running and still feeling good at 52 miles! While my body was repairing itself, my mind was seemingly trying to comfort me during sleep. It worked.

Running in the World: September 2011
http://running-in-the-world.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Running in the World. Friday, September 30, 2011. Size Isn’t Everything. Holding up my size 26 pants from 2005. Today I experienced a good lesson in setting the ego aside. This time last year I wore a size 6 jean. Today I bought size 14. At first I wanted to belittle myself. But then I stopped and thought about it. This year I am healthy, strong, happy, and sleeping well. A year ago? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Bend, Oregon, United States. View my complete profile. White River Snowshoe 8k - Jan. 19.

http://running-in-the-world.blogspot.com/2014/07/lake-sonoma-50m-41214-race-report.html
Running in the World. Thursday, July 24, 2014. Lake Sonoma 50M (4/12/14) Race Report. Oddly appropriate sign just after the start. Photo: Chihping Fu. Yes, it is Jim, who I see a couple times a year at races. We chatted for several minutes, but finally I had to let him go as his pace was too quick for me. Lots of Oak trees. Photo: Chihping Fu. Though it was cool out, for some reason, I was sweating profusely and my clothing was dripping wet. Or was I collecting moisture out of the atmosphere? But my long...

Running in the World: I’m an SOB
http://running-in-the-world.blogspot.com/2012/07/im-sob.html
Running in the World. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. I’m an SOB. There are people that would love to be able to run, much less walk. And here I was getting in 10 miles today. I was walking— so what! Get over yourself, Laura, get out of your mind, and enjoy being able to move through the world! So what if you don’t feel as good or aren’t as fast as you think you should be. Why has it taken me so long to learn this? Why is it taking running to teach me so many important lessons? Be thankful, Laura. Some nice do...

Running in the World. Sunday, July 8, 2012. Western States 100 Training Runs. 8220;I like having stories to tell.”. That’s what Mary, my massage therapist, said should be the first line of my book. Now, book, I don’t know. But I will do her the honor of starting this blog post with it, since it’s quite appropriate. So here I begin, more than a month later, to tell the story…. You may or may not know that at last year’s Western States, I paced Melanie,. A change in routine. Runners in the fog coming off t...
