Slowly Global: Hello, continent number four and Ho Chi Minh City!
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2014/03/hello-continent-number-four-and-ho-chi.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Thursday, March 27, 2014. Hello, continent number four and Ho Chi Minh City! Our flight left Madrid on a Tuesday at 11am, stopped over in Moscow for an hour or so. We can see Russia! Been waiting two months to post this photo). Once we got out and started to explore, we noticed a weird familiarity. Maybe because the narrow streets reminded us of the Moroccan medinas where we'd recently spent so much time? Day One was acclimation. We mostly stayed in Dist...

Slowly Global: WWOOFing in a remote village in northern Thailand.
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2014/06/wwoofing-in-remote-village-in-northern.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Sunday, June 29, 2014. WWOOFing in a remote village in northern Thailand. With two full months on our Thailand visa, we knew we would want to step off the tourist route and volunteer at least once. A thorough search on Help Exchange and WorkAway gave lots of interesting options: eco-lodges, beach hostels, English schools, meditation retreats, monasteries, a homemade soap business, and several organic farms. We thought about it quite a bit. And Patrick were t...

Slowly Global: Friday five: gnome hunting (and other fun!) in Wroclaw.
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2013/10/friday-five-gnome-hunting-and-other-fun.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Friday, October 11, 2013. Friday five: gnome hunting (and other fun! Wroclaw ("Vro-tz-wav"), known as Poland's Venice, was not in our original list of "must-see" places. But we ran across a quirky Wroclaw city map at our hostel in Warsaw highlighting funky. Bridges galore, and a gnome scavenger hunt. And then we spontaneously decided to go to Prague and Wroclaw was right on the way. To our surprise it ended up being a highlight of Poland. Like Warsaw, this c...

Slowly Global: Friday five: more frequently asked questions.
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2015/08/friday-five-more-frequently-asked.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Friday, August 14, 2015. Friday five: more frequently asked questions. We've already answered the most common question. We've been asked as we re-acclimate to life on the mainland and start to catch up with friends and family. Here are five other common questions and their answers, in no particular order. 1 "What was your favorite place? The long-term traveler's least. Favorite question - you want us to choose one place out of 800 days and 17 countries?

Slowly Global: Late Friday five: what we will remember about Bucharest.
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2013/11/late-friday-five-what-we-will-remember.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Sunday, November 10, 2013. Late Friday five: what we will remember about Bucharest. Five things we will remember about our long weekend in Bucharest, in no particular order. Taking advantage of the earth. In a good way). The center of the home. Stavropoleos Church backed by modern decay. Amazing what a little smog will do. Lunch at Dristor Kebap. We made it through the line alive. Homemade (well, "hostel made") pasta! But we'll get there. For our last night,...

Slowly Global: Lovely Luang Prabang, part two: the markets! and the food!
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2014/06/lovely-luang-prabang-part-two-markets.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Friday, June 6, 2014. Lovely Luang Prabang, part two: the markets! For non-shoppers we sure did spend a lot of time at Luang Prabang's markets. (In all fairness there are three of them, daily, so you kind of have to go out of your way to avoid them.). First up: the morning market. Which technically runs until about 4pm. It stretches a few blocks near the river (close to all the guesthouses). This is where locals get produce and basic necessities. The hotpot ...

Slowly Global: Friday five: WWOOFing with Nubian goats.
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2013/07/friday-five-wwoofing-with-nubian-goats.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Friday, July 5, 2013. Friday five: WWOOFing with Nubian goats. Five things we learned about Nubian goats over the last few weeks, in no particular order:. 1 They are curious, friendly, gentle, and incredibly sweet. Our first night we were introduced to a few of the does and bucks who immediately nuzzled our hands and nibbled our t-shirts. From that point, whenever we passed they would bleat a greeting and usually walk over to poke their head through the fence.

Slowly Global: "So, how does it feel to be back?"
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2015/08/so-how-does-it-feel-to-be-back.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Monday, August 10, 2015. So, how does it feel to be back? Of all the questions we've been asked since we arrived in Portland, the subject of this post is probably the most common. It's also the most difficult to answer. The quick, accessible reply is that it's weird. (Irony of ironies that it's "weird" to be back in the Weird Capital of the US. But it's true.). Where are they all going. At 10:30am on a Tuesday, anyway? Non-Portland people, click here. But we...

Slowly Global: One splurge per continent: Koh Tao, Thailand.
http://slowlyglobal.blogspot.com/2014/08/one-splurge-per-continent-koh-tao.html
Because not all who meander are lost, either). Friday, August 1, 2014. One splurge per continent: Koh Tao, Thailand. In Canada we splurged on the TURF festival. Turkey's splurge was almost a hot air balloon ride in Göreme. Cancelled due to bad weather - we gorged on figs instead). Morocco's was the desert camel ride. And Central/Western Europe's splurge was. well. Spain. Our one-splurge-per-continent choice for SE Asia? Koh Tao in a nutshell. Uphill both ways (seriously). The beach by day. One from my or...
