We’re a mix of pastors, educators, lawyers, students, quiet guides, vocal advocates, creative thinkers and faithful neighbors. We were born here in Michigan, in East Africa, and a few places in between. We’ve all experienced hospitality in a foreign place and remember what it’s like to feel welcomed. We think the world can do a much better job of welcoming refugees who have been forced to leave their homes. In a lovely workspace on South Division as a sewing production space by day, and a community space.

Treetops Collective started with this question: how does a refugee woman make this community her true home - a place where she and her family can flourish for generations to come? Trees need the right soil and conditions to sink their roots deep and stand tall -. So do the strong women who are making Grand Rapids their home. Stable, they are able to provide shade for others, prevent erosion, and provide numerous other benefits to their surroundings. Our mission is to connect refugee women.
