Summer lovin’……. | The Briels Bunch

The random happenings and adventures of our lives. Summer lovin’……. June 4, 2012. Had me a blaaast. Sorry, couldn’t help myself. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to say or think the phrase summer loving without channeling a bit of Sandy and Danny. It’s a part of me. And I know I’m not the only one who has willingly participated in more than one. 1 Mrs Myers Cleaner in Basil I love Mrs. Myers potions in general, but I REALLY love the Basil fragrance during the summer, so fresh and clean smelling. 6 Sun Tea...

The bit of magic you have when you listen. hard.). In little towns, we do a little bit of everything in community outpatient mental health. I am having to learn how to be a DMHP all over again. And it is exhausting. (read: the person who acts as an arm of the superior court to make decisions as to involuntarily detaining patients to psychiatric beds.). So now, while I am building up my child and family caseload at the New Clinic, I am being trained again in DMHP work, because I will be expected to take c...

The bit of magic you have when you listen. hard.). I think we were meant to stand on our feet, actually . I started yoga in 2007 after I separated from the former spouse. It was wildly nourishing and challenging and for 90 minutes I could concentrate on something other than some of the worst of human emotions. I was, and I say this lovingly, and to roughly borrow a phrase from Elizabeth Gilbert, a cliche of an almost divorced 30 year old taking divorced lady classes at the Y. That's the hope, anyway.

The bit of magic you have when you listen. hard.). Of airline food and cramped airline seats . It is the best. As we geared up for January, December, therefore, was a very quiet month. Subdued, toned down, pared back. Because . Europe. Quite honestly? December was also a grief filled month. Shoes and I have been trying to start our family for a long time now, and in early December, we thought we had it. You know? I am ok, by the way. That was just a hard one. So it was easy to look forward to leaving the...

The bit of magic you have when you listen. hard.). Shoes and I were having a discussion yesterday about marriage: what we were afraid of, what we like, what's hard. And I said, "I would say you're probably my best friend, for all intents and purposes.". And he said, "What! No way. We are not best friends.". What I know about Shoes is that sometimes a little exploring is necessary - he's incredibly bright. Not incredibly demonstrative or affective, but sharp. And this is what Shoes said,. The bit of magic you have when you listen. hard.). I'm no longer waking up at 4:00 in the morning. And other such goodness. One full month at the new job. I have responded to my first crisis call in the ER with this job. I had backup. I had a beautifully understanding ER doc and ER nurse. I was paid appropriately for this wee-hours-of-the-morning-overtime. I signed up for yoga again. And started exercising again. And finally scheduled a facial for which I'd been given a gift card for AGES ago. There's ti...

The bit of magic you have when you listen. hard.). You can have a yappy dog or an upset child. But please not both. It took us a year to get to the right terminal after touching down. Well. Not really a year. More like an hour. An hour of reorienting ourselves to an airport that was not American, finding our way, and a terminal train that was completely shut down to an "unidentified piece of baggage" found in the terminal we were trying to get to. So many "Madam, sil vous plaits" and demure smiles. (...

The bit of magic you have when you listen. hard.). Perhaps I expected the Rome from Eat, Pray, Love. But that was Elizabeth Gilbert's Rome. I should have known my Rome would be different. Have you been in that spot? Where you've traveled somewhere new and thought, "Oh, this place. Somewhere in my spirit I've been here before," and it has been familiar and lovely and comforting? Shoes and I set out on our own that evening, exhausted, jet lagged, and famished. Our first Italian language lesson? But Shoes i...

The bit of magic you have when you listen. hard.). When the university shuts down,. The town shuts down. Shoes and I tried to have dinner out last night; we hit five restaurants in a row that were all closed. There's nobody at the grocery store. Or the gas station. This is what it's like when a town of 10,000 all year residents says goodbye to 20,000 students for the winter break. We're settling in, which is odd. But welcome, too. It's time. Links to this post. I hit the yoga mat early this morning.
