Planet Jekatobru: Doc Neunherz
http://planetjekatobru.blogspot.com/2012/03/doc-neunherz.html
The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Friday, March 9, 2012. I know it is a cliche to say that a certain teacher "changed my life." But cliche or no, I am certain that many of us have had at least one. For me that teacher was Richard "Doc" Neunherz, who I have just learned passed away yesterday. The first assignment was to write an essay based upon the summer's reading, which was itself considerable for a junior in high school - a historical monograph on the early colonial per...

Planet Jekatobru: September 2009
http://planetjekatobru.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Friday, September 11, 2009. Monday, September 7, 2009. New Blog, Sister Visit. My sister's just left us.in town for a few days with her new(ish) boyfriend, Jimmy. I'm happy to say Jimmy's a great guy, and we had a great time hanging out with them while they were here (although the time was far too short). Dimmy" trans: "Jimmy"). Yeah. Huh. A stormy sky moved in around 4 pm. Made for some rather dramatic images of the city skyline - and...

Planet Jekatobru: June 2010
http://planetjekatobru.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Sunday, June 6, 2010. They're awful. They truly, truly suck. Their CEO is, to use the vernacular of his homeland, a total ponce. But I think if I had a few bucks set aside, now would be the time to buy BP. (And I'm not the only one. In terms of ethics, I look forward to the day when shorting BP will be a winning proposition. Planet Jekatobru: March 2011
http://planetjekatobru.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Thursday, March 24, 2011. It's been a loooong time since I've posted.three months by my count. So much has happened in this time. Kara and Beruria came and went, Carl and Sue as well. It's been some time since I've been to the archives, but I've collected enough material for a good couple of years of productivity. We must be better than this, or else what are we living (and, sadly, dying) for? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Following Secretar...

Planet Jekatobru: November 2010
http://planetjekatobru.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Thursday, November 4, 2010. I just realized that it has been half a month since I've posted on the blog.which likely means that the very few readers who I had have given up all hope. Ah well.if you're still out there, here are some more musings. Reading Hartmut Stegemann's book The Library of Qumran. Now, what got me thinking was one question: why? Why did they go to all this trouble? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Cornucopia’s Take: Py...

Planet Jekatobru: November 2009
http://planetjekatobru.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Thursday, November 26, 2009. It's been a long time since I've been to a proper show. OK, saw a little thing in Seattle before we moved back to New York, but it was a band I didn't know, just kind of something to do. When Kara surprised me with the announcement that she planned to buy tickets to the Pixie's Doolittle. I should start by saying that my expectations were exceeded in every way. A fairly well-known surrealist short movie that fe...

Planet Jekatobru: May 2011
http://planetjekatobru.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Little did I expect that the play that was showing on its stage was going to be Professor Bernhardi. By Arthur Schnitzler. It was kind of like walking past the Estate's Opera in Prague and seeing that a Mozart opera was playing. Or, l'havdil, seeing the Ring at Bayreuth. It was bashert. We had to go. Schintzler, a product of Leopoldstadt, w. On stage in London and New York, and the novella Traumnovelle. The Road in...

Planet Jekatobru: April 2011
http://planetjekatobru.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Saturday, April 30, 2011. After a wonderful (and far too short) break from Israel over Pesach. With Kara and Beruria. In White Plains, Toby and I are on the road once again. We left New York late in the afternoon the day after aharon. And to my astonishment found ourselves on a particularly Israeli exodus from galut. Holidays back to the grind (including one astonishingly obtuse family of haredi. In their checked luggage. His own weight in...

Planet Jekatobru: December 2010

The view from a fourth floor apartment in White Plains, New York. Monday, December 20, 2010. Prague Reflections III: The Baths of West Bohemia. It has been piped through the plumbing to drink - thus it is much hotter at its source - I imagine the dog was stewed).
