Tales of the Rice Family life experience. Tuesday, December 3, 2013. National PKU Awareness Day. There are many reasons why I have abandoned my blog efforts for the past few months. I cannot get into those in this post, but just know that I am trying to jump back on this wagon now! Carson is still doing great with his diet. He is finally showing more interest in other foods (SALAD! But he also is becoming curious about foods he cannot eat, thanks to his grabby little sister! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Tales of the Rice Family life experience. Friday, June 21, 2013. Friday Fun: Lazy Summer Days. Cats: The epitome of laziness! Today is the first official day of summer, the longest day of the year. However, most people celebrate the beginning of summer as the end of school, which happened a few short weeks ago. And here in the Deep South, it almost always feels like summer already anyway! Some yummy summer refreshments, and a lot of fun, with more to come! My hard-working little girl! I first want to apo...

Tales of the Rice Family life experience. Monday, July 29, 2013. My Son Has Autism. Note: I want to apologize for being such a blog slacker. The main issue has been that Carson damaged my laptop charger, and since it is the only computer I currently have access to, it is a very daunting task to get it charged up enough to write. I soon hope to have a new charger and get back to more frequent posting. Thank you for your patience! Yes, my son Carson has autism. You already know that? Of course you do!

Tales of the Rice Family life experience. Monday, June 2, 2014. A Day in the Life with PKU: Blood Draws. A vital part of managing the PKU diet treatment is testing the blood to find out phenylalanine levels. According to our clinic at UAB, the acceptable normal range for blood phe is between 2 and 6 (don't ask me to get technical, let's just look at the numbers! He was indeed diagnosed with classic PKU at 10 days old. This is Carson's blood drawing kit. I keep cotton, Band-Aids, lancets,. 65279;W...

Tales of the Rice Family life experience. Wednesday, December 3, 2014. PKU Awareness Day 2014. I do a lot of math, weighing and measuring food, and calculating phe intake. I do a lot of planning, like deciding what Carson will eat when we go to a family dinner, or church, or a friend's house, or a restaurant. Now I am wondering what Allison will be like when she gets older. Will she be as easy to please with the diet as Carson is? Will Allison be like Maggie and only want what is on my plate? Me, You and...

Our PKU Life: The Forgotten One
http://thericefamilyexperience.blogspot.com/2015/02/the-forgotten-one.html
Tales of the Rice Family life experience. Monday, February 23, 2015. None of us were happy about spending the night in the hospital, but Children's Hospital was wonderful. At least we were in an awesome place with awesome people caring for us. Everything went smoothly, and Maggie handled it all like a boss, like the princess she is. So sweet, mostly easy-going, even minimal whining! Next week she gets this last cast removed and she will be free, finally, after six weeks! At 9 months old. She loves Disney...

Our PKU Life: April 2014
http://thericefamilyexperience.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Tales of the Rice Family life experience. Wednesday, April 30, 2014. The sky is the limit for this boy! And he is potty-trained. All by himself. He tells me when he needs to go. None of these things did I dream possibly would happen within a year. At least not all of them collectively. He cracks me up. He loves going to the doctor. Dr. Descartes declared that Carson was "awesome", and taught him to say so. And Carson is definitely AWESOME! I want to stress again to all parents out there who have been giv...

Tales of the Rice Family life experience. Thursday, April 30, 2015. Autism Awareness 2015: We Survived Kindergarten! As this year's Autism Awareness Month comes to a close, I want to stress the most important things that I would like other people to know:. 3 Getting help (services like private therapy, school interventions) is the number one key to managing autism. There are professionals trained to help your child, and most of all, they teach you how to help them too! My child never ceases to amaze me!
