Might Oughta Should: September 2014
http://mightoughtashould.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Where triple modals are the norm. Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Porcelain and a spider. One of the joys of culling together three part-time jobs doing three different things I (fortunately) really enjoy and that require reporting largely only to myself, is that when things pile up, they really pile up. At some point, I will take photos of the new glazes I've been using. Initial results have ranged from truly spectacular to good-for-under-plants to not-even-its-mother-could-love. Might Oughta Should: August 2015
http://mightoughtashould.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Where triple modals are the norm. Monday, August 17, 2015. My neighbor called me over to her porch today to see a freshly molted cicada. Its exoskeleton had just fallen off, and it was hanging upside down on a brick pedestal, drying its wings and its tender fleshy surface. I think the photos below are easier to study when the bug is rotated 180 degrees. I also find the cicada less skin-crawly to look at at when the photos are sepia toned. Monday, August 10, 2015. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Is better than an...

Where triple modals are the norm. Thursday, September 27, 2012. Summer recap continued: Bridges 2012. Way back in July, my pottery-, parenthood-, and standing-in-line. Friend Dr. J (Duke PhD in Mathematics, 2009) and I traveled to Towson University to attend the Bridges Conference. According to the Bridges website, the conference is the largest mathematics and art interdisciplinary conference in the world, so you can see why J was the perfect travel companion. What did you say those are made of? J and I ...

Might Oughta Should: Bridges 2015 and Baltimore photo dump
http://mightoughtashould.blogspot.com/2015/08/bridges-2015-and-baltimore-photo-dump.html
Where triple modals are the norm. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Bridges 2015 and Baltimore photo dump. I spent five very full days in Baltimore. I gave an ocarina-making workshop. A topic for a later blog post) to have the ocarinas bisque-fired. I picked them up on Saturday and distributed them to their makers. A bunch of mathematician-made functional ocarinas. A happy music-making mathematician. While I was in Baltimore, still embracing the jetlag from our Germany. I found a 5K for Saturday morning. I fin...

Might Oughta Should: June 2015
http://mightoughtashould.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Where triple modals are the norm. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Monday, June 15, 2015. It's stinkin' hot outside. The brand new summer studio has AC! Who needs a foyer, anyway? Labels: safety in the pottery studio. Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Yet more plants and bugs. Ten days ago, I posted this photo of a baby prickly pear pad:. Here's what it looks like today:. For a plant that grows slowly, what a huge investment of energy that is! Ten days ago, I didn't post this photo of a mystery onion-like weed in our yard:.

Might Oughta Should: November 2014
http://mightoughtashould.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Where triple modals are the norm. Sunday, November 30, 2014. We went to Ocracoke Island with friends for Thanksgiving break. We don't visit the coast very often. Our first beach day began with lots of clouds. But the sun poked through. And drove almost all the clouds away. E's a sandcastle kinda guy. While his friend E prefers running with pelicans. After a few hours of wading and building sand. Castles in wind and sun, boys needed to rest. Orion and Taurus over the beach. Like father, like son. Durham C...

Might Oughta Should: July 2014
http://mightoughtashould.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Where triple modals are the norm. Sunday, July 20, 2014. Several years ago, I took two classes taught by Jamie Kirkpatrick. CE's secret code soaked up the smoke. My best result: copper wire mask with oxidation spot from hole in saggar. Zigzag pot with oxidation spot from saggar hole (red slip on white clay). Totally reduced chickens and nested spheroid with one of Jamie's pots to the right and K.S.F.'s pots to the left. Jamie pot with swirl. Heavy metal stripes on a Jamie pot. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
