Coast to Coast

Coast to Coast August 2010. In August 2010 we collected our hire car and set off for the distant shores of The Lakes. We carried about 13KG each, and our packs contained plenty of freeze dried food (especially flavoured mash potato) as well as all the camping gear. Everything was weighed, and if it was too heavy it didn’t make the cut! Bunk house camping in a field with a glorious view of the sea. On this night at least there was no sign or rain, mist or fog! As we packed camp very quickly and set off in...

Gary's Coast to Coast Walk 2012: Day 11, 16th August 2012
http://garyscoast2coast.blogspot.com/2012/08/day-11-16th-august-2012.html
Friday, 17 August 2012. Day 11, 16th August 2012. Started walking today at 8.30am, Day started well as I bumped into fellow walker Stuart as I set off from the Blue Bell Inn in Ingleby Cross. The day began by going up a steep track which took us to the top of the moor and onwards. This was just a taste of things to come as Stuart and I spent most of the day going steeply up hills and then down again! Steep up through Arncliffe Woods this morning. The view from the top above Arncliffe Woods. Stuart and Ga...

Gary's Coast to Coast Walk 2012: May 2012
http://garyscoast2coast.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, 13 May 2012. Training Walk 13.05.12. Got burned a bit on my arms today as I did the 16 mile walk I was going to do last week. It's basically the same Leicestershire 3 peaks walk I did in April, but with a couple of alterations. Took it slow and steady and managed to finish in about 7 and a half hours. The weather was great and I had fun today even though it was a long one. The deer were on the move in Bradgate Park this morning. The War Memorial in Bradgate Park - Summit 1. Have also arranged to ...

Gary's Coast to Coast Walk 2012: February 2012
http://garyscoast2coast.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Friday, 17 February 2012. Training Walk #3 17.02.12. The weather started out with plenty of that 'fine rain, that soaks you through', but that soon stopped. Walked round Cropston Reservoir, up through Bradgate Park, through Swithland Wood and up towards Woodhouse, then cut across country to Swithland Reservoir, round and back past Rothley GCR Station and home. Looking back towards Woodhouse as I cut across country. Crossing the Great Central Railway - no trains today tho! Wednesday, 15 February 2012.

Gary's Coast to Coast Walk 2012: Day 8
http://garyscoast2coast.blogspot.com/2012/08/day-8.html
Monday, 13 August 2012. Day 8 - the start of the home straight! After a night under canvas and his now customary bowl of porridge, Gary began walking slightly later this morning at 8.45am. Day 8 saw Gary follow the River Swale on route to Reeth 12 miles away. Keld Park House Campsite. A misty Keld Valley at dawn. The Yorkshire Dales are lovely. And in Gary's opinion are nicer than The Lakes. The landscape is more rolling and rural, less mountainous and wild. Proper James Herriot country! Tonight's wateri...

Sunday, 16 September 2012. Just to update everyone that unbelievably I have now raised £1512! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. It's very difficult to express how much your support means to Helen and I. We really have been blown away by everyone's generosity. When I set a target of £1000 I knew that it was ambitious. There were times when I thought I may not get there. I never for one minute expected to raise half that amount again! Gary and Helen xx. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). It should ta...

Gary's Coast to Coast Walk 2012: Day 10
http://garyscoast2coast.blogspot.com/2012/08/day-10.html
Wednesday, 15 August 2012. Nice early start today at 7.30am as there's a long day ahead to cover the 19.5 miles from Brompton-on-Swale to Ingleby Cross. One of many fields today. The weather had a bit of everything today: it was hot, humid, cloudy and rainy in that order. Today was a bit like Groundhog Day and went something like this:. After eight and a half hours walking today my dogs are certainly barking! Arrived in Ingleby cross at 4pm. Ukulele tune of the day, "King of the Road". Someone has to....
