The Fool on the Hill

The Fool on the Hill. Sunday, June 20, 2010. I think I'm becoming quite bored with the old interweb, although slick and sometimes not so slick websites are trying their darndest to interest me with embedded advertising. The Fool on the Hill: September 2009

http://weldondiary.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

The Fool on the Hill. Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Things still being found on hard drives, this one about the "5S" regime, as with most things, you would really have had to be there. The group responsibilities include:. Ensure that the group is working with only necessary items, all unnecessary items are to be removed. The unnecessary items can easily be identified as they are the items that are not in fact necessary for the minute by minute essential clean up of the work surfaces. But we’ll do our...

The Fool on the Hill: Darn Adverts

http://weldondiary.blogspot.com/2010/06/darn-adverts.html

The Fool on the Hill. Saturday, June 12, 2010. Facebook has been irritating me more in the last month or so, they are fiddling and changing things that means that more chaff ends up as "top news" on my main page. I suddenly find that I am "friends" with Peter Gabriel and Queensryche and many other groups and topics that were part of my original "about me" profile. The Fool on the Hill is a recreation of a previous blog, late night memories and rants from my working life, a place where I can ramble on wit...

The Fool on the Hill: SSDD

http://weldondiary.blogspot.com/2010/06/ssdd.html

The Fool on the Hill. Saturday, June 12, 2010. It may be a general malaise with the interweb, but I feel as though I've lost my way, that logging on is a repetitive chore that results in very little. Boot the PC, check gmail, check ebay, check facebook, stare at screen and wonder what to check next. It is apparent that I can't live with the internet and tend to fret and suffer when it is not there. I could rant about that, but it really won't do me any good, maybe would amuse someone out there who has ha...

The Fool on the Hill: Overthink dot com

http://weldondiary.blogspot.com/2010/06/overthink-dot-com.html

The Fool on the Hill. Saturday, June 12, 2010. It is late, or very early, raining outside and a sore throat is my companion. This one, well, perhaps this one will now be the "what I really think" blog, but that in itself would be a type of paradox as my brain is as crowded as my Yamaha hard drive and it is unlikely that my mental "B sides and Rarities" will ever make it out of the locker. Lets call this the "what I really think stereo downmix" blog. View my complete profile. The Taxi Drivers Son.

The Fool on the Hill: Recycling

http://weldondiary.blogspot.com/2010/06/recycling.html

The Fool on the Hill. Saturday, June 12, 2010. I'm a grumpy 52 year old, who has bought Tubular Bells three, maybe four, times in this lifetime, bought Titanic twice and will not be following the ship to the bottom one more time in blu-ray or whatever derivative, requiring bi-colored glasses that rises from the industry. The Fool on the Hill is a recreation of a previous blog, late night memories and rants from my working life, a place where I can ramble on without any real point. View my complete profile.

The Magnet: October 2012

http://daveweldon.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 25, 2012. Looking back, it may have been that year that caused the pair of us to pivot, a start to the sprinklings of thoughts about what we should be doing with money. I suspect it still was two years off at this point, but the man with all the gold and the cigars certainly made a couple of bottom feeders like ourselves realise that we were not in control of our money. But, added "stupid taxes" at the end did little to surpress our joy at destroying that second mortgage. It was back in...

The Magnet: Timeslip

http://daveweldon.blogspot.com/2015/04/timeslip.html

Sunday, April 12, 2015. The timeline, always a constant, and I think we're around 1993 in the proceedings. I would recount everything that happened in 1992, but that was a tragic year for my family, the year that my youngest brother, Paul, was killed. In the next few entries though, I will recount the other events, because they too deserve to be told. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Fool on the Hill. The Taxi Drivers Son. The Magnet: February 2013

http://daveweldon.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 26, 2013. One of the things I realize as this blog and my story progresses is that the web is a very public place, so in some respects, as I name people in future entries, context will be important, knowing that some are very sensitive to criticism or have been rightly labelled by myself as psychopaths or sociopaths. You know, a selection of the darker side of the population that we all end up working with. Right, with that disclaimer out of the way, I can continue with this diatribe.

The Magnet: December 2013

http://daveweldon.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 27, 2013. I realize that I wasn't a job shopper long enough, it wasn't even a year at Menasco and I really did not learn anything about being a contractor, well, maybe a bit, but mostly, my mindset was still very much that of a permie. Permie, is that the right spelling? Perhaps it was, it was usually followed by wanker, for the full effect of the insult from the jobshoppeur, so my short tenure as a jobshopper was followed by a longer period of time as a PW. Yet, I persisted. I had the r...

The Magnet: I did not realise at the time....

http://daveweldon.blogspot.com/2015/05/i-did-not-realise-at-time.html

Monday, May 11, 2015. I did not realise at the time. It seems that a lot of my time is spent here in the present, reflecting about the past and wondering what would have been different if I had done something in a different way and how things may have turned out or how people would have been affected. That being said, I regret not writing down what was happening in 1992 and '93 and I did not realise at the time how important it all was. We had talked on the phone a few weeks before and Paul had mentioned...

The Magnet: January 2013

http://daveweldon.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 26, 2013. A bit Heath Robinson. In the later part of 1990 one of the structural proposals I was involved with for Menasco was for a latch mechanism for the Boeing 777, not just a simple door latch that is, this was one latch actuator (of a series of seven or eight a side) that would allow the wings to fold up. Yes, you heard me, a folding wing concept on a massive airframe like the 777. It's a bit Heath Robinson". This was not the first full size prototype in my career however, if you e...

The Magnet: May 2015

http://daveweldon.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 20, 2015. I'd come back from the UK at the end of 1992 with my younger brother's programmable calculator, a Casio. It was an impressive thing and in my opinion, bringing it to Canada to be a useful device in my career, served to keep his memory fresh in my mind. However, there was another device out there that caught my eye, and I knew that it had the capability to run Lotus 123, and be a "pocket" clamshell computer. It was a Hewlett Packard HP100LX :. And so it was. Tuesday, May 19, 2015.

The Magnet: Crime and punishment

http://daveweldon.blogspot.com/2015/02/crime-and-punishment.html

Sunday, February 15, 2015. At the time there were numerous frustrations that started to eat away at me and start me on the path towards leaving once again. There were a large group of design contractors employed at Dowty and it seemed that because I was spending some time in the CAD room after hours, I was involved in a lot of the banter between them and was learning a lot (again) of what I was missing in the wallet department. And that, more than anything, pissed me right off. I don't know if at the tim...
