hey dooders: January 2013

Thursday, 31 January 2013. Who Needs a Man as Long as There are Art Supplies. My uncle's immortal words live on. As you all may recall, I like Janomes. One of the things I have never liked about them is that they have a pretty small throat space (which, if blogger weren't mysteriously blocking random photos, you would see from the earlier post). Yeah Janome's ad team FTW there). Anyway, I went down there on Monday morning (yes even though I worked that night) just to SEE IT. They originally had three...

hey dooders: January 2015
http://heydooders.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, 11 January 2015. Odds and Ends (last one). PS I don't even know which citation style to use because there are a lot of different disciplines. And I hate that crap, having gotten a 37% in apa (mla was better). So I'm adding by author, year, article, book or journal, (publisher) for the most part. Or if Rey complains, I'll just edit and make them links. Barber, E.W. 1995. Women's work: The first 20,000 years. Women, cloth, and society in early times. Cardon, D. 2007. Natural dyes. Definitely some c...

hey dooders: October 2014

Sunday, 12 October 2014. Obligatory Dye Trip Post. Anyway I also managed to force a few theo peeps to come to visit, which was cool and we decided to meet the weekend before the class. Spirit of the Haida Gwai, Bill Reid's famous statue which I directed Liz to by telling her to find the giant boat. Sunday we went to Granville Island, mostly so we could go to the market and I could buy ART SUPPLIES. While it rained on Monday, the weather was pretty nice for the rest of the trip, which was nice. Someone ac...

hey dooders: July 2014
http://heydooders.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 3 July 2014. The time frame between July 1 and 4 is full of celebrations across the continent, national "birthdays" commemorated with patriotism and happiness. Though there was a time our family also celebrated that is not so much the case anymore. But as others remember formative events of their nations, This time recalls formative events for me too. hey dooders: May 2014
http://heydooders.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, 11 May 2014. After Four Years of Exile. We have finally moved to a place that has room for all my fabric and Fergus (plus at least 20 other cats for Fergus to get beat down by, including a random grey kitten that ran into our apartment today). It also doesn't have the stupidest tenancy agreement of all time, so even though I'm paying more, it's probably all worth it. The tubs of dyestuff and pots for dyeing. And the two jumbo tubs of FABRIC. Especially duppioni, apparently. I love the versati...

hey dooders: December 2014

Sunday, 28 December 2014. Light and the Absence of Colour (Part Four). To wear linsey-woolsey, except. On Yom Kippur. I guess that’s where dye history and knowledge come in. To linen. There are sometimes a lot of gymnastics done in rabbinical writings about what counts as shatnez and what doesn’t, but only a few dispute that the priestly garments and tabernacle were shatnez. Some Jews also believe the prayer shawls laymen wear were to be shatnez as well. It turns out all colour does unite to make white.

Wednesday, 5 March 2014. The Deer's Cry has always been one of my favorite pieces of calligraphy, and over the years I've collected images of maybe 15 or 16 of the most famous pages from it. Archibald Knox started the work in 1914 and continued working on it for the rest of his life. It's an amazing rendition of Patrick's Breastplate, or the Deer's Cry, a midieaval poem often attributed to Patrick. Here is the redone version. As noted, they'd make a nice set:. hey dooders: August 2013
http://heydooders.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 20 August 2013. I have decided a blog isn't the best medium for a picture album, so the rest of the spreads from the library book will be uploaded to flickr instead. Here is the link. To the set. I've added a few more pics. Thursday, 8 August 2013. I hate it when sites disappear. The Opening page of the book. I'll add the final date when I have to return it, even though I know what it's going to be. There's no way I'm getting all these pages decorated- the book is simply too big for that. Kitsun...
